Looks like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have announced their rallies in Washington finally!

On October 30, 2010, Stewart will hold the "Rally to Restore Sanity" and Colbert will hold the "March to Keep Fear Alive"... but I'm sure they'll coincide and probably produce the same message in a different way.

Anyone interested in attending? I've been meaning to take a vacation to D.C., and if my project finishes on time, perhaps I will...

Will post pertinent videos from tonight's episode once Comedy Central puts 'em up.

I just finished watching the web extended interviews with Bill Clinton. Damn, that man can talk. He would kill Obama in an election.

I would make such a trip from Houston, but it couldn't be guys only, I would want to bring the wife.

Maybe we could charter a bus.

It would probably be fun to go. I love the Colbert Report. Jon Stewart can get to serious about politics sometimes for my taste, but the guy is very intelligent, and this idea is great.

Clinton was killing it in that interview. The years have really made me appreciate the Clinton presidency. If there's one thing the Democrats need to learn, its how to play the political system like Clinton did.

Clinton second term is pretty much a textbook case on how you game the political system to push through your agenda (and in Clinton's case he did it with a Republican controlled Congress)

It's a huge joke on Beck.

    But really, hipsters don't rally.

    It would be hilarious though.

If you watch The Daily Show religiously, you saw this whole bit evolve during the hype up of Glen Becks's "Event". They mocked his overwrought self-importance relentlessly; his 'coincidence' of the 'I Have A Dream' date, his choosing to try and relate his event to MLK, the reports of a million people and in the end, the anticlimactic nature of the event. It was just unfocused and dull; no firey black preachers, no entertaining gays, no energetic youth, no sound bites, no catchphrases. As forgettable as white pop music.

And as much as I think Jon would really like to influence the national narrative and lower the level of histrionics, he will always retain his deniable plausibility with humor. That's how he stands above criticism of him, by standing apart from what he criticizes. Humor (and smug and superior demeanor) can slay some pretty serious demons.

Colbert? He's defines the 'I play the fool; but the joke's on you, dumbass' brand of humor. By playing the part of his foil, he can make him say anything we wants and extend his ideas to the point of absurdity.

So I don't think there is any attempt for this to be real politically. They are comedians, this is a joke. It's the day before Halloween for god's sake, think there will be any costumes?

It will be huge fun though, the Woodstock of political humor. I would never actually go though because I have a wicked case of porto-potty phobia.

I think the writers and the stars of these two shows approach genius. I've said before they may be the only thing that keeps my head from exploding and just going postal.

Dude the creative heat is on. Any sign or banner must be stone cold satire.

calculated misspelling, double entendre, back-handed self-deprecation of the white middle class, an expressed lack of conviction

    or for Colbert's side
