Probably true, but in the tough west it's not saying much.

Objectively I'd agree. By all metrics the Rockets are a tier below SA, OKC, and LAC. So by not facing one of the other teams in the second round, they do have the best draw.

That said, it doesn't change my own personal opinion that for a 4 seed, the Rockets also drew the easiest possible path to the conference finals. I wouldn't bet us against the Spurs, but I'm more optimistic than I would be against Clippers or Thunder. And Portland is a team the Rockets match up well against.

Isn't the point of having the #1 seed to have an easy path to the finals?

Lowe also says Rockets a decent pick if you have to make an outside the box pick to win the 'ship.

    He's picking Rox over Portland.

Lowe says that Wes is going to take Harden to the block, but that's actually good for the Rockets because Harden is better in post defense.

Spurs have the easiest road to the Finals even though he goes on to say that Houston cannot be overlooked and has a chance to win it all?

    Bit hypocritical huh?

SO he is saying that Houston has a GREAT chance at beating any team in the playoffs while at the same time saying the Spurs have it easy since they probably will have to play Houston?

    I'm so confused...

Considering they then have to battle through the Clippers or Thunder (most likely)

Miami has an easier road by far

Well Simmons tells Lowe that Van Gundy picked the Rockets to win, and instead of calling Van Gundy an idiot, he says, 'well if you had to pick an outside the box team to win a championship, Rockets would be best choice right?'

Spurs: Dallas - Houston - OKC
OKC: Memphis - LAC - San Antonio
LAC: Golden State - OKC - San Antonio
Houston: Portland - San Antonio - OKC

Spurs do have the easiest 1st round opponent. In the second round, everyone is really tough.

    Talking heads lingo translation.

"They don't have a great shot" -> They are huge underdogs, i.e. Bobcats vs. Miami
"They have a great shot" -> They are underdogs, i.e. Rockets vs. Spurs
"They are fairly evenly matched" -> I don't know who's going to win i.e. Thunder vs. Clippers should it come to that
"They are favorites -> They are likely to win.

You are taking his words literally instead of filtering them through expert-speak.

That's what I was about to say. That is indeed the exact point of getting the #1 seed.

Isn't that the pint in getting the 1st seed. Theoretically, you're supposed to have the easiest path to the finals, so no surprise. I hope the Rockets meet them in the second round and surprise them.

Good. It not like the rockets are a perfect team. I don't need the world expecting them to win it all.

The number of people assuming the Spurs are easy pickings on this forum is too damn high. I have a very strict policy against ever betting against them.

Am I the only one thinking the Mavs will take the Spurs to 6 or 7 games? I just think Dirk is still a great player with good enough pieces around him. Spurs might get fatigued if the do get past the Mavs, then Rockets.. then the Clips or Thunder....

I will say however... that IF the Spurs make it the NBA FINALS, then they will win the ring... it just won't be as easy as Zach Lowe thinks it will be...
