My SMU Mustangs mens team will do well this year. We're supposed to have two All-Conference players, seniors Jerryl Sasser (G) and Willie Davis (G/F). And one basketball publication (Lindy's College Basketball) even named our backcourt rotation (those two and junior Damon Hancock) the third best in the nation (though I find that hard to believe considering we lost our starting point guard due to graduation) I think this magazine might be just a bit over-zealous when it says we should make it to the second round of the NCAA's. Most pick them to win the WAC and get an automatic birth. They were a bubble team last year, that was passed up for an at-large bid due to the disappointing way we finished the year (losses at home to Tulsa and TCU and a first round exit in the WAC tourney) SMU went on to lose in the first round of the NIT to Missouri (I think that's who we played) I'm not saying they are top 10 contenders, just a program on the rise. My top five in the nation are Duke, Arizona, Maryland, Kansas and Illinois or MSU. UNC will be there by the end.
