Nederland to re-name FM 365 after Bum Phillips

I saw this and though it was cool. Bum coached at Nederland and Port Neches-Groves High Schools near here. Bum Phillips Way will be 1 exit North of Jimmy Johnson Boulevard.

Nederland leads drive to name road for 'Bum' Phillips

Anyone who's been fretting over the lack of local sites named for legendary NFL coach O.A. "Bum" Phillips should worry no more.

Nederland's City Council on Monday unanimously approved a resolution to designate the portion of FM 365 that runs through the city "Bum Phillips Way."

"I think it's very special, as he is," Phillips' son, Wade, said Monday by phone from his office in Houston. "I think people there certainly recognize that."

But before the designation can become official, Port Neches and Port Arthur's city councils must agree to the name for the parts of the state highway that run through those cities. Jefferson County's commissioner's court also will have to give its OK.

Wade already has an office in houston. I bet he's already purchase a house in full, invested in real estate and picked out a cemetary. I mean hell if Kubiak can last five years with this league, then Wade can last 20.

I think that is a great tribute to a Texas icon who has stayed true to his Lone Star roots.
