Some players and coaches are great with free flowing systems. But this group of guys needs some discipline. You cant put players like KJ McDaniels or Terrance Jones into the game and expect them figure it out on offense, they demand structure. Our players require specific roles. Do we see Harden off the ball? No. Do we see Harden in the post? No. Does offense come easy to Harden? No. Plays or no plays, we lead the league in ISO ball and the only way we seem to score is if Harden creates for himself or someone else. Ultimately our offense is still ranked well enough to win (defense, rebounding and effort are the real problems). But it's not as efficient as it should be. Kudos to Morey for wanting the type of system you see from the Spurs, Warriors and European teams - but there's a talent/IQ/coaching gap that is in the way of executing it at a high level.
I know we want harden to move without the ball and he needs to, but who about sole of the other guys move when he has the ball? None of them ever move set back screens or cut. Im starting to think that it's coaching more than the players it's as if they think read and react means you can set any screens and run around trying to free yourself. For all the harden needs to run off ball more he's the only guy on the team I have seen cut backdoor or come around a screen to shoot a jumper. That's bad seeing as he has the ball 75% of the time
Hmmm. Not sure 'wanting the type of system you see from super elite teams' is worthy of kudos for a GM. The gap between the 'wanting' and the reality is actually the part he is responsible for. The 'wanting' is the easy part that any average fan or talk radio host could probably accomplish. I mean, do you expect kudos for simply knowing what performing at a high level in your job looks like, without actually executing it?
