That's a nice contract for Marcus Morris. I know he isn't great, but I think he's can be a good value locked up for 4 years at $5 million per.
Marcus Morris ? Marcus Morris /.........wow ! You sure it wasn't Dallas singing him to get back at Morey ?
I don't get the shock at the Marcus Morris price. Chuck Hayes got the same sort of contract in the last CBA when it represented a higher share of the cap. Once the new TV deal is signed (maybe before the start of the season) and BRI goes up, this contract will not look that crazy.
The phoenix suns circus act. They have the world's only set mediocre basketball twins, they have an army of guards, and if the dry heat doesn't kill you their mediocrity will.
Actually he might be turning into a good offensive player. Shot 38% from 3P(took 4th most 3PA on team) playing 1800 minutes w/NetRtg of +4.7(OffRtg/DefRtg of 108.6/103.8) compared to team NetRtg of +3.3(OffRtg/DefRtg of 107.1/103.8). So he was a team average defender but a plus offensive player. If he can maintain his 3P% while taking 2 more 3PA per game he could help replace some of the production lost from Channing Frye.
This. $5 mil per season for a young, proven role player will be a good deal when the higher salary cap kicks in. To put it in Morey terms he will still be a positive asset at that price.
It's eerie how similar their talent stacks up to our 14th pick teams. I guess the owner wants to win, but I really can't see the upside.
Don't sleep on Markieff because he's probably going to start this year. He was 10th in most improved player voting. Averaged 26.6 mp and 13.8/6.0 pts/reb pg and 18.6/8.1 pts/reb per 36. Compared to 27.5 mp and 12.1/6.9 pts/reb pg and 16.0/9.1 pts/reb per 36 by TJones. Jones is a better shot blocker and rebounder but Markieff had a better DefRtg(103.0) than his team DefRtg(103.8) while TJones had a DefRtg(105.8) worse than his team DefRtg(103.1).
