Posted a listing for an Ipod that was brand new/sealed for $190. Buyer agrees to meet me today. He opens the item to check if it was, indeed, brand new. He then says 'Sorry man, I only have $160'

Of course, I'm pissed because he just diminished the value of it by opening it. I stand firm on my original price, and he eventually agrees to pay me close to $5 less than my asking price.

At this point, I was annoyed, and figured that $5 wasn't worth the effort of finding someone else on CL, so I agreed.

Lesson learned : Don't let the buyer open a sealed item until you have the money in your hand.

    Any shady CraigsList stories?

So, why did you let him open it?

Well, I understood why he wanted to open it first. I let him open it because of negligence - I've sold a good amount of new/sealed items on CraigsList and most people do open it first; just never encountered one who would try to haggle afterwards.

    Lesson definitely learned.

Yeah typically I just shoot CL buyers and throw them in my van. They never see it coming, brilliant prank.

Craigslist is sketchy for selling/buying. Stick with eBay, especially when selling ipods or phones. I just sold my iphone 5 on there the same night I put it up. Only hassle is waiting for a week or two to get the funds from paypal. But it was a breeze

That's nothing. A buddy of mine sold two excellent condition iphone 5's on CL back when they were the latest iteration.

The transaction was relatively painless, but when my friend went to deposit the cash, the bank realized it was all counterfeit. The cops were called and he was held for questioning.

End result was humiliation and being out ~$700

I don't trust CL for anything

Not familiar with ebay. How hard is it to get started with selling?

If you use the mobile app, it is insanely easy. Only bad thing for you starting up is that eBay works off of a reputation/feedback system. If you open an account, id suggest buying a bunch of super cheap items like phone accessories to build up your feedback.

Yeah, I just went through and put up 3 items for sale. It was a lot easier than I thought - pretty self explanatory, really.

Luckily, I have been an ebay buyer for 2-3 years now, so I already have about 35 stars / 100% feedback.

So, paypal/ebay take 10% of total selling price, right? That's not too bad. Is there an initial fee for putting up the listing? It didn't really mention anything.

One more thing (sorry for the overload of questions) - you mentioned that you sold your iPhone 5 on their fairly quickly. I want to sell a pretty expensive item (new Wii U) , but I've heard/read a lot of horror stories in which the buyer claims to have never gotten the item, and even with proof from the seller, gets their refund and the item. Any truth to that?
