There's been some decent sized moves so far (Ramirez and Sandoval to the Sox) but the Cubbies just went big... Jon Lester changes Cubs Course 6 yrs, $155 million. This was hours apart from them trading for Miguel Montero, too. This should kick start the rest of the free agent market, too. Shields and Scherzer still out there and now the market is set.
They're relevant for a couple of years every decade or so, they're due. Also, when they're good-ish it just makes the inevitable Cubbing of their season all the more enjoyable.
1908 - Cubs win World Series 1914 - World War I starts 1938 - Cubs make it to the World Series, losing to the Tigers 1939 - World War II starts These are the facts and I do not believe them to be coincidences.
Except this wont be for a couple of years out of a decade. This management and owner might be the best the Cubs have ever had, period. Nothing from the past should apply. Well then, hopefully the Cubs are the last team ever to win a World Series before the world ends.
Jimmy Rollins(PHI) --> Dodgers Antonio Bastardo(PHI) --> Pirates Andrew Heaney, Kike Hernandez, Chris Hatcher, Austin Barnes(MIA) --> <-- Dee Gordon, Dan Haren(Dodgers)
Great trade for the Dodgers... Andrew Heaney is a baller, and Dee Gordon had a fluke season. Friedman is kicking a$$ over there.
Friedman and Farhan Zaidi doing work. Jimmy Rollins Gordon & Haren --> Andrew Heaney, Enrique Hernandez, Chris Hatcher & Austin Barnes Heaney --> Howie Kendrick Signed Brandon McCarthy
I domt follow baseball that closely I'm the offseason but can someone give me a grade on how crane went?
We're still really early to be giving out grades. They made a couple of nice moves to help improve their bullpen...which was arguably their weakest link last season.
Cespedes to the Tigers for Porcello Tigers better be careful. They might still lose Scherzer, too. Yes they still have Price but they're banking on Verlander turning it around when all of the signs are that he continues to regress.
Rick Porcello --> Boston Yoenis Cespedes, Alex Wilson & Gabe Speier --> Detroit Mark Reynolds --> St. Louis (1 yr, $2 mil) Kendrys Morales --> Kansas City (2 yrs, $17 mil) Justin Masterson --> Boston (1 yr, $9.5 mil) Mat Latos --> Miami Anthony DeSclafani & Chad Wallach --> Cincinnati Alfredo Simon --> Detroit Jonathon Crawford & Eugenio Suarez --> Cincinnati John Mayberry --> Mets (1 yr, $1.45 mil) Matt Kemp, Tim Federowicz, ~$31 million --> San Diego Yasmani Grandal, Joe Wieland & Zach Eflin --> Los Angeles Ervin Santana --> Twins (4 yrs, $54 mil)
This is from the same bunch of folks that blame a 100 year old goat and turn a "cursed" baseball into spaghetti. Yeah, nothing from the past applies. Cub gonna Cub. I can't wait to see the meltdown, I just wish the Stros could take a meaningful part in it.
Mainly talking about Theo. Him and Friedman are the best in the biz. No, this is from me. So, wrong again. Poor Stros.
