Maury Or Haren or I feel like these are the two guys constantly put on a pedestal on CF and treated like they can do no wrong. If you were to let go off one and rebuild around the other, who would it be? Who do you trust more to get this team to ring in the future?
I'll take Mary, all she did was keep a WCF team together and, to everyone in the world's surprise, they suck. I don't get how there's so much blame thrown that way.
Morrey. I still trust Morrey. But Morrey is human and makes mistakes and I hope he has started to learn from them and become better and get a good coach.
I trust both of them, but not at all unconditionally. If it came down to one of them absolutely having to go, my trust wouldn't be the decider so much as the fact that GMs tend to stay in one place until ousted, and star players tend to go to the most glamorous city or the best team that can pay them. Fifteen years of Morey is a bigger positive than two years of Harden.
I don't understand the distrust in morey. He turned scraps into a wcf team. He doesn't have control how well they play game in and game out, he just gets the best possible players he can turning quarters into dollars. Just look at the trade for Josh smith and ty Lawson this season, how many gms would give up that little for that much. Not his fault ty Lawson has been a complete bust. There wasn't a person on this site that didn't love that trade at the time.
Coaching or Morey continuing to hire puppet coaches? Morey coaching through excel spreadsheets? Morey drafting busts like WHite and Dekker in the 1st round?
He's made some great deals and there's no doubt he's a smart guy, but I think Morey is largely responsible for the culture of the organization. He's also responsible for the franchise's image and reputation of not caring about players. Morey is often hailed as a genius, but I think he deserves to be on the hot seat. He builds teams that are consistently fundamentally flawed and has had full reign of personnel for years now. Maybe someone else out there could make Houston a champion one day...
You really make me hope that Dekker turns into black Dirk with all of this "bust" talk thrown around an injured rookie.
Coaching is an issue, but besides thibs I don't see a lot of good coaches coming. I like the 3 point philosophy. The middle rounds of the draft are crapshoots go to any organization and they make bust picks there. Sa does better than anyone else but not everyone is gonna be that good. If we get rid of morey who'd you get? It's an overall body of work and I don't see many gms better than him, he's easily top 5 overall, he isn't the best at everything but he's pretty good.
