I find it interesting that so many people here were offended when he didn't make the All-Star Game and yet such a large portion want to trade him and install Lowry as the starter. What gives? Let's take a look at four of the other top point guards in the league today and see how each performed at a similar point in their career.

My criteria for picking seasons for comparison was to choose the first season where the player had played over 2,000 minutes going into that season.

    All Stats Per 36 Minutes
    [IMG]

Brooks is not as well-rounded as these players were, but you can see that he is by far the best pure scorer at the same point in his career due to his fantastic jump shot. In fact, he is the only guy out of these with over .500 effective field goal percentage.

You also must keep in mind that Rick Adelman's system deflates assist numbers, and instead of one player controlling the ball, it moves through everybody's hands. Finally, remember that Aaron Brooks plays a large percentage of his minutes with Trevor Ariza, Shane Battier, and Chuck Hayes on the floor putting up bricks and airballs.

He will likely always be a score-first PG, but I think his assist numbers will still go up considerably with Kevin Martin and Yao Ming on the floor, and as he learns how to run an offense better.

By the way, for all some of you like to talk about how much better Lowry's passing is, he only averages 1.6 more assists per 36 minutes than Brooks. I love Lowry, but let's be honest--he doesn't bring much to a half-court offense against a team with halfway decent D, while Brooks is a constant perimeter threat against most anybody.

So stop trying to trade Brooks. If we're going to lose our future All-Star point guard, I want a star PG back. We already have a PF who averages a double-double per 36 minutes, and now an excellent wing player in Kevin Martin.

If we can SnT a guy like Bosh, Stoudemire, or Lee without giving up Brooks, great, but stop trying to trade Aaron away!

    Dude, don't worry.

We won't be dealing AB for a while, unless it's for one of those 3 PGs on that list not named Nash.

I don't think anyone wants to trade Aaron away. They rather see him come off the bench and be that offensive spark maybe, but not traded away. Lowry is more of a PG than Brooks. Brooks is more of a shoot first time player that will be valuable off the bench.

The Rockets have said they are going to resign Lowry. He may command a 6 million or so.

Brooks' rookie deal will expire after next season. Does it make sense for the Rockets to keep Brooks and Lowry, when both are capable starters? What might Brooks fetch this summer, or towards the trade deadline?

With a roster devoid of offensive talent and finishers, the argument for Brooks is very strong. But after adding Kevin Martin, Yao Ming, and maybe some other developing peices, maybe Lowry is the better way to go.

How many of those guys had only played 2,000-something minutes in the NBA coming into this season? How many are having their first full season as the starter?

My point is that Brooks is still developing, and his 2009-2010 should be compared to the seasons of other young, developing guys.

I'll take any one of those guys, Nash/Paul/Williams/Rose, in a trade for Brooks.

That is what it should require to trade him, in my opinion. Not an expensive free agent PF, a young star PG. (I wouldn't take Nash for him by the way.) And since none of those guys are available, I don't want to trade him.

By the way, Brooks is set to be an RFA after next season, not a UFA. It will cost some money but we shouldn't have any problems bringing him back on another long-term deal.

As much as I like Nash, he is getting much older. I'd rather keep the young guy at a fraction of the cost.

Aaron Brooks is blessed with a form that will seldom sustain injury. Rose, Paul, Williams will probably get injured at least a 1/3 of the upcoming season. That's something to think about.

I also think Lowry is being severely overrated by a lot of people on here. You don't seem to recognize that he is putting up the kind of numbers and performance he is because he is able to come off the bench and run the floor with a ton of intensity for 24 minutes a game. He's not the kind of PG you can throw out there for 36 minutes and let him run a half court offense. He's a great spark off the bench and I love the energy he brings to the team, but at this point he is not a starting PG in the NBA.

For the next few years, Nash gives us a much better chance of winning.

It doesn't matter though because Nash is not available to us and I seriously doubt he ever will be before the end of his career.

IMO can never have enough weapons at the Guard positions. Brooks can always swing to SG. No point in trading a shooter when shooters are what the Rockets need.

Boston traded Jefferson away to get old KG, and it paid.

AB is not a can't miss talent, he isn't even better than Jason Terry at the same point of his career. There are better/same level PGs in every draft. If Rockets start rebuilding, AB fits better than Nash, but if Rockets is in a win now mode, Nash is way better.

Aaron Brooks is better than Kyle Lowry, PERIOD !

It would be increibly STUPID to trade Aaron Brooks so Lowry can start unless you are upgrading the team significantly.

Guys like Brooks who can get their own shot, and shoot a good percentage and break down defenses in the half court do NOT FALL OUT OF TREES !!!

I love Kyle Lowry, but he is not a quality starter, never has been, and never will be unless he learns to shoot the ball.

In the half court, which is where games are won and loss in the playoffs give me the guy that is a threat to score the ball over someone other teams can ignore.

And Rick Adelman's offense does not require a pass first PG, it requires a scoring point....go look up Mike Bibby's stats when he was their starting PG and maybe you will get an idea of what is required out of the PG position.

Aaron Brooks is better, he should be kept unless he nets us a SUPERSTAR player.....

    The END !

Which team would trade for aaron brooks as a starting PG? I can't think of a single team that would do so.

I could not be agreeing more. The guy has been our savior for almost the entire first half of the season ,bringing us out of some deep holes with his ability to hit consistant shots. Why would you not want this guy on the floor? Also, wasn't the point of getting KM was to add another threat? Two knock out shooters on the court at once is much harder to defend then one. So why not use that strenght?
