we dodged a bullet, no way darren more-ay ponies up max money on role players. he would of been shipped for a 2009 drafted player already and the rights to 3 guys ive never heard of in some back packing europe div 3 team.

 

If Morey had drafted Kwahi, the Rockets would have Kevin Love right now.

 

Honestly, that wouldn't even be that much of an over-payment. Even if he does underperform for that max contract, his salary won't look that bad after the new TV deal kicks in.

 

^Also, the guy might not be putting big numbers just yet, but he's a very solid defender and is improving his offensive repertoire each year. Did I mention he's a Finals MVP?

 

13ppg/6rpg/2apg/2spg in 29mpg on the Spurs would probably translate into something like 20ppg/8.5rpg/4apg/2.5spg on a weaker playoff team.

i think he is over rated, he had three awesome games last season(in the finals) and really hasn't lived up to the hype he had going in to last season

Not really a fair assessment because their best players never seem to leave.

 

When you look how other wings get paid, he definitely deserves it. Great defender&athlete and huge upside, already Finals MVP and showing an allround-game.

Also, people have to remember that the new TV deal will increase the cap significantly, a current max for Kawhi will be a bargain in a few years.

 

Exactly... Leonard went through Batum, Durant and Lebron. Parsons couldn't even get past Batum.
