Pretty simple poll...obviously completely hypothetical and pointless banter, but fun to think about.

Gonna be biased since we know the outcome of the latter.

Have to go Harden. I love TMac, but if he was in the situation Harden was this year I don't know if we are 19-5 right now

Tracy would have been the one sidelined for 11 games.

Harden's style of play is more consistent, and less reliant upon whether his jump shot is falling. T-Mac was awesome in his prime, but he still had games where he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, and he didn't get to the line with nearly as much regularity as Harden.

    Who is better than whoM

and to answer your asinine questions: it's discussion and it's not all that ridiculous. In fact, you just wasted your own time making that post.

Back to the question at hand: Hard to say....even knowing how McGrady's tenure turned out, he was great for us early on. I think I have to go with Harden as it just feels like we're witnessing a progression of a great player while with McGrady we kinda already knew what we were getting.

2005 TMac was really good but Harden is just as good right now.

Gotta go Harden, but it's super close.

2001-2004 TMac was otherworldly though. He was Lebron with KD's scoring mentality.

if current Harden were taken back in time to the 04-05 season and our memories beyond that erased... I would have (unfortunately) preferred T-Mac by a slight margin

Tough... That second half of 04-05 T-Mac was playing Orlando style. That is seriously what I keep thinking of when I see Harden this year. Watching a guy and you have supreme confidence that he is going to make it.

I'll give Harden the edge though because I watched the game last night.

04/05 tmac was really good which equals hardens play right now. I'll wait to the playoffs to make my choice.tmac put up some crazy numbers in the playoffs, I want to see harden do the same thing.

Should rename this thread to rather have Harden or 2002-2003 McGrady...That version of McGrady shouldve netted him an MVP. He was unstoppable.

    Peak T-Mac>Peak Harden.

It is what it is...and yes I know Harden is having an MVP type season.

It partially depends on what fine print you add with respect to injuries.

The signs were already there with McGrady who had just come off an escalating sequence where by year he missed 1 game, 3 games, 5 games, 6 games, 7 games, and 15 games. Harden has missed the occasional game to this point in his career but I think most would call him "durable".

But even assuming health for both, I think James is a more valuable player. Gets to the line more. Projects as a better three-point shooter although this year he's pretty much equivalent to McGrady. Harden's vastly more active on defense, even if he has a few more mental screw-ups.

McGrady's primary advantage over Harden is that he took care of the ball much better. He maintained the same primary role in the offense usage-wise, but Harden has half again as many turnovers per touch.

Both guys have the clutch gene for damn sure.
