Alright, this one is both for those out there old enough to remember and those interested enough to learn. Are you a fan of Bum Phillips? He seems to be a bit of a polarizing figure: Some people think that he's the greatest coach since sliced bread, and some think he's the one responsible for the short career and eventual health problems of Earl Campbell. So which is it? You do love Bum Phillips, right? Or is he the b*stard who cut short the Tyler Rose?
He's both. He's the best coach in Oilers history. But he's also partially responsible for the demise of Earl. I say partially because Earl had the ability to change his style for the long haul if he wanted to. He didn't and it cost him.

The sentiment is prevalent among Horn/Cowboy fans in Austin & Dallas. From my experience, most of them are too young to have actually watched Earl play for the Oilers.
I agree, who in Houston DOESN"T love, Bum "next year we're gonna kick the sumbitch in," Phillips?? Yeah, Earl's career was shortened by too many carries, but it was also shortened by his battering ram running-style. That style doesn't make for longevity no matter how many carries you get.

Im the one. I think he's wayyyy overrated by houston fans. How many superbowls did he win? or even go to? Luv ya blue can suck it. Its pathetic to have pep rallies for perrenial losers. Bum sucks. John McClain sucks. Hopefully the Texans have a better fate.
