I think it's clearly obvious the Rox are no longer a half court team and pretending to be only makes things worse. Their personal is geared more for a full court PHX Suns type ball and that is okay. Problem is that their still trying to shove the ball into Yao and maintain that full court mentality when it's not there. Yao is a fine player but that time limit restricts him a great deal which means people are trying to do things they aren't capable of and Yao knows it. http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2010/11/at_04_rockets_face_possibility.html I think it's time to move Shane into the same role Chuck performs, defensive specialist. Shane's defense isn't great anymore and less minutes may make it better for him to conserve energy and a lot more fresh when called upon. His offense is horrible and while it was thought with Yao back, his 3-point shot would be key, it hasn't been there. Also play Jordan Hill A LOT more, sure he will have his issues but he should be backing up Scola. Guy can run and fill the lanes, playing him at center is fine but not ideal especially with Dampier coming into the fold. Also more of Jeffries would be nice to fit the new mold of offense and defense. Now to Yao, not bashing him at all, he is just what he is now. A good but no longer great center, that is fine but don't center the offense around him. Yao is now just one of many good players on this team and thus can add his specialty to this unit. Use Yao as the outlet passer and run, don't wait for him, that time is gone. Run around Yao on offense, not through him, which means post up Scola more and use the pick and pop more often. The new rotation should be... AB/Lowry Martin/Lee Budinger/Jeffries Scola/Hill/Jeffries Yao/Dampier Use Chuck, Shane and Brad only with certain matchups and start to sprinkle in some PP from time to time. We are a dam good team that needs to find it's inner PHX Suns, the personal is screaming for such a move but it will mean sacrifice and a lot of outscoring of people.
1st of all the Suns had a lot better talent and the right coach for a run and gun style. Golden years... Nash Amare Shawn Marion Joe Johnson Those 4 have more talent back than, than 8 of our players. 2nd when is this offense Yao Centric??????????????? Dude got 2 pass in the last 2 games in the 2nd half.......................... It amazes me when people think this is still a Yao Centric offense....The correct assessment is, this is no longer an inside-out offense. Hell even Scola doesn't get the ball. This is the read and react crap with people who can't react or read...besides KM/Brad Miller.
Steve Nash is not walking thru that door. Full uptempo is pretty but half court play wins playoff games.
It's not about the players we don't have, its about the players we do have. We have players that are better suited for a faster pace not spot up 3's IMHO. They are still going through YAO, come on, this is obvious and he even knows it by his comments. If this wasn't the case, we wouldn't complaining about the time limit.
Well you compared us to the Suns. A better comparison would be the Warriors who also have a shoot first PG. Either way while it maybe entertaining, you don't make the playoffs playing small ball.
Suns made the West Finals last year and while AB is DIFFENTLY not Steve Nash, they won with guys like Dudley, Frye and Amundson playing vital minutes. We have the advantage with Martin, I think Bud will be better than Hill by season's end by and Amar'e vs Scola is closer then you think. Nash vs AB Richardson vs Martin Hill vs Bud Amar'e vs Scola Frye vs Yao I think we have a better bench than they had last year, all this leads me to believe we can be that type of team. Edit - If Nash is the key then trade for him, Suns are going down the same path we are. Nash with more talent would be nice.
I really thought we were both. Half court team: AB, Batt, Martin, Scola, Yao When Yao leaves we should turn back into an uptempo team. Uptempo Team: AB/Lowry, Chase, Lee, Scola/Chuck, Hill I thought when Lowry came in last night he didn't change the Tempo like he did last year. He was walking the Ball up the court when Scola, Hill, Chase, and Lee were in the game with him. I thought we should have built a larger lead when our second unit was in.
I keep seeing this and I've been guilty of saying this as well but looking at the 4 games so far, maybe it is a problem. Great against the Lakers, no complaints. We scored 128 against GS but that's what they do, give up points sooooo.... We only scored 94 against the Nuggets and had trouble in the 4th. We only scored 99 against the Hornets and again had issues in the 4th. Not sure about how great the offense is currently.
I actually think we need to slow the game down. The early shots - mostly 3 pointers we are not hitting is what is putting us on our heels at the other end. Slow the game down. Why is Adelman giving the green light on these early shot-clock 3's with no one touching the ball. It's very disheartning to run down on offense and then just have to run back 2 seconds later.
yes offense , more offense!! That's the solution. We'll also play with 4 basketballs to improve our chances of scoring even more points because scoring 120 every game is very realistic.
Hell YEA more offense, the point is to outscore your opponent and with this squad the defense won't get much better at all, so stopping them is going to be an issue. This team has just WAY to much offensive talent to be struggling like this and going back and forth with their offensive style isn't working.
the only place our offence is a problem is in the 4th, we need some1 2 step up and be the man, i thought AB0 could be that guy, speed racer claims he want 2 b that guy, yao should be that guy aleady... but thats a whole nother discussion i dont think full-out up-tempo is the answer tho, what i'd like 2 see is rick letting the hot hand play like he kind of did last year, why pull hill only 2 see yao struggle?
On and individual level you are correct, but our defensive problems go way beyond that. Scola, Brooks and even Shane have gotten lost on rotations. Scola wasn't within 5 feet of Smith last night. You surely can improve on effort and defensive execution.
Yao is the outlet guy and stays back while Aaron and Martin speed down to the other side of the court. I guess, my main problem with Rox is the lack of physical tools on defense not the "scheme". If you CAN'T play "D" then outscore everyone, just have no faith AB or Martin can guard anyone but they can score A LOT.
