what's his end game by doing that? it was important to his fans which is why they kept saying it. because it was important to his fans it should be important to him.

The video in the coffee shop shows he is cool and chill -- not sure how someone as well known as him could be goaded into a response like that by a pretty simple criticism. As for his music his hit is fun to hear every once in a while on the radio, but an entire album of that... no thanks.

I've always thought that was such a beautiful tribute to his wife.

I can never understand why people expect artists to embody their perception of ethics.

What this guy is offering is his music, if you don't like it, move on, say whatever you wish, ignore whatever he says if you don't like it. He's not a charity worker. He just makes music, and apparently it sucked and he is at least sometimes a douchebag. Stop expecting anything else from a musician but their music.

Better it's someone like this guy than a Taylor Swift who might be pumping out bull**** 24/7 and even if you don't want to listen to it, record labels push it down your throat in every ad in every product on the airwaves on spotify wherever. If anything I respect this guy for not constantly putting 16 big booty b****es in his video or a girls bedroom pillow fight in his videos to be relevant. He just does what he loves, and apparently it sucks and he's a douchebag. Why the F would I care about that? I'm looking for good music not a role model.

his art (music and shows) isn't free tho

I'd offer him the same advice: he should let his fans say whatever they wish and move on. He shouldn't expect them to automatically worship everything he does; they're not charity workers.

Yes separate the ART from the MAN. No one is saying to boycott his shows. Chris Brown still has a MEGA career, so Matisyahu will be alright.

But this literally is like FAN KILLING 101 all the elements of what NOT to do in 1. He's not like Eminem or metal guys who are openly prickly from day 1 so you "know what youre getting". He WANTS fans DRAWN IN to his ethical sincerity. He cant have it both ways, saying "I dont even PEFORM for YOU" dismissive of fans and then saying "Do dont even KNOW whats its LIKE!" wanting sympathy.

In the comments before he responded it was CLEAR that the fan was big adoring fan. Her friends commented that she played his music all the time, and they knew it was hard for her to say that cuz of how much she's a fan. He IGNORES that and turns a passing comment into a school yard fight.

And in true ad hominem form he makes fun of her NAME and the LOOKS of her KID? He even guided an insult at the ACTUAL TOUR that he's booked in! Its a turnoff by most measures, have to be REALLY good artist to overcome it

In Matisyahu's defense, the baby is a bit ugly.
