I'd rather see Atlanta put together a deal for St. Louis' #2 pick and then if they want Clowney they have to give us #2 plus another pick or two. That way we control #2. We can take Mack or Manziel there or we can possibly work down another trade and still get Mack or Manziel while adding even more picks.
The Texans are using the media to let them know if they want Clowney, they come to us. I don't think they'd screw themselves by going through St Louis first.
Am ready for this to be over so we can move on to discussing how the Texans screwed it up. Seems like the draft in the past would have been around this week.
Texans will never get that kind of haul in a trade up for a non QB. These guys are just talking out of their ass again.
If the Texans can get that kinda haul from ATL...I would do that in a heart beat. Swapping#1 pick to #6, plus 2nd rounder plus next years 1st rounder...That would be terrific!
Alright if the Texans drop to #6 who would be targeted? Falcons - Clowney Rams - Watkins? Jags - QB Browns - QB Vikings - QB Texans - ? Robinson? Mack? Maybe Bortles or Manziel?
Raiders have the 5th pick...I don't see them going QB...based on your other predictions, I'd say they go Robinson.
I think we have to assume Watkins, Mack and Clowney are gone. That leaves 3 spots, with Manziel and Robinson strong candidates for 2 spots leaving us the choice of Matthews, Evans or one of the QBs. Certainly feels like a huge drop off from Clowney.
It only feels that way to you because you're buying into the media hype of Clowney. Clowney wants to go to Atlanta anyway. He even said he wishes Atlanta would trade up. The kid doesn't even want to play here.
Washington gave up a 1 1 1 2 for the #2 overall pick, which was a QB. I think that for a generational talent at DE like Clowney (4-3 outside pash rush, arguably the second most important position in football to shore up), a 1 1 2 is a perfectly reasonable swap. It's the #1 overall pick, of course it's going to be expensive. Now the question is whether or not we can drum up two bidders to get the price close enough to that benchmark.
Just bc he's mentioned Atlanta doesn't mean he doesn't want to play here. He's mentioned if we don't pick him, he'll make us pay for it.
He did more than mention Atlanta... He said he wishes Atlanta could trade for him. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/02/23/clowney-wants-falcons-to-trade-up-for-him/
