    1. The Guitar Trio ( Al, Paco (RIP) & John)
Through a series of concerts in the llate 1970s to early 1980s, culminating in the seminal "Friday Night in San Francisco", those three genius shown a new light on the possiblities of the classical guitar

    2. Adrian Smith/Dave Murray (Iron Maiden 1982-1987)
Great chemistry dating back from their highschool stuff, peaked as a guitar ensemble on the Seventh Son of A Seventh Son album. Then Smith went AWOL for the next 10 years.:(

    3. James Hetfield & Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
    Underrated.

    Who you got?

This better be a troll thread where you left off the obvious number 1 for effect.

If not, you know nothing about guitar.

Nope. The guitar trio is by far the best guitar ensemble ever. Incredible technique and diversity with Paco being the master of Flamenco and John a pioneer of Jazz Fusion.

I love threads like these when someone asks for an opinion and another poster(s) comes in and says his/her opinion is right and if you don't agree, you know nothing.

I concede that the Smith/Murray duo inclusion is down to me being a long-time Iron Maiden fan. But I absoultely maintain that the original Guitar Trio of Al Di Meola, the late Paco De Lucia and John McLoughlin is the best guitar ensemble I have ever heard and I have listened to a lot of talented guitarist down the years (Page, "Slow hand God" Clapton, BB King, Slash, etc). Take a piece like "Frevo Rasgado where McLoughlin's stop-start technique and improvisation is on show; that's not mindless shredding but real display of virtuosity.
That's just my honest opinion, no need to mock.

I thought you purposefully got Claptons nickname wrong.

Honestly, I would just go with the troll excuse.

Pretty much have to include the three member of Beat Happening, who all would play guitar on occasion. If "play" is the right word.

Why would I do that? I am a big Clapton fan with his live version of Crossroads being a particular favourite of mine.

Well, I guess they don't really qualify because they never were all three playing guitar at the same time. :( Nevermind, but if your competition will take trios who play one at a time, then I'd like to resubmit them. True virtuosos.
