With the all star game coming and the talk of some deserving players possibly not making the teams, I was curious, who everyone thought the top 5 players by position, would be.

Do not take into account contracts, age or past accomplishments, but rather only their performance, games played and impact this season.

PG (An extremely stacked position, with arguments for any of the top 5 to be number 1)

    1a. Chris Paul
    1b. Derrick Rose
    3. R. Westbrook
    4. D. Williams
    5. Rondo

SG (Wade or Kobe IMO are interchangeable as #1. Monte Ellis edges out Eric Gordon(6) and Kevin Martin(7) on my list.)

    1a Wade
    1b kobe
    3. Ginobli
    4. J.Johnson
    5. M.Ellis

SF (Pretty straight forward (no pun intended) though i probably prefer Carmelo to Durant in the playoffs.

    1. Lebron James
    2. K.Durant
    3. Carmelo Anthony
    4. Paul Pierce
    5. Danny Granger

PF Like PG, this position is absolutely stacked, with arguments for up to 9 players to be considered in the top 5. Barely missing my list was Lamarcus Aldridge (6) with his improved post game and inside presence and Kevin Love (7) who has been a rebounding machine and statistical monster. Other notables include, Chris Bosh, Zach Randolph, David West, Lamar Odom and Scola.

    1a Paul Gasol
    1b Amare Stoudamire
    3. DirkNowitzki
    4. Blake Griffin
    5. Kevin Garnett

Center (the 5th spot is a matter of preference between Chandler, Okafor, Bogut, Lopez and Al Jefferson... basically a battle between bad offense with good defense or bad defense with good offense and bogut, who is mediocre at both. I picked Chandler narrowly over Jefferson and Okafor, due to his defensive and rebounding impact.)

    1. Dwight Howard
    2. Tim Duncan
    3. Al Horford
    4. Nene
    5. Tyson Chandler

Nice job. People can quibble with the exact order, but I think you pretty much got it right.

how can you not have bogut in top 5 centers but nene and chandler?
before his injury last year he was 2nd in blocked shots, was carrying a bucks team to the playoffs, averaging 20 and 10. the guy can ball.

I agree with everything except the Dirk ranking. Pau and Amare are really good but I don't think they are MVP caliber players like Dirk.

Bogut is actually one of the top centers in my book only behind Dwight. He plays great defense while his numbers were slightly below dwight last season before his injury. Tim Duncan on the other hand, is still a PF in my book, looking at his career as a whole.

I think I pretty much agree with the OP's list.

The center position is so weak right now.

    Pretty good list.

The reason the Rockets are below .500 and struggling is because we don't have a top 5 player at any position.
