    Romney channels Obama

Mitt Romney To Push 'Fairness' In Primary Night Speech

Of note in the excerpt of his prepared remarks, sent to reporters by the Romney campaign, is the former Massachusetts governor's focus on the word "fair." In a single paragraph, Romney will use the term six times. It's an attempt to counter President Barack Obama's focus on income inequality and his proposed Buffet Rule.

With the Buffett Rule, Obama seeks to ensure that millionaires who receive most of their income through investments don't pay a lower tax rate than ordinary Americans, who make much less in wages. Romney's remarks Tuesday night are intended to reinforce his argument that Obama is thereby discouraging and demonizing success.

"I see children even more successful than their parents -- some successful even beyond their wildest dreams -- and others congratulating them for their achievement, not attacking them for it," Romney will say.

His comments will try to shift the focus of "fairness" by subtly arguing that Obama is creating inequity by opposing school vouchers, aiding failed ventures such as Solyndra, supporting unions and adding to the nation's debt.

"We will stop the unfairness of urban children being denied access to the good schools of their choice; the unfairness of politicians giving taxpayer money to their friends' businesses; the unfairness of requiring union workers to contribute to politicians not of their choosing; the unfairness of government workers getting better pay and benefits than the taxpayers they serve; and we will stop the unfairness of one generation passing larger and larger debts on to the next," Romney will say.

In a nod to Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels' critique, Romney will also address the issue of the poor.

"Poverty will be defeated," he'll say, "not with a government check, but with respect and achievement that is taught by parents, learned in school, and practiced in the workplace."

You know? The more I hear Romney speak these days it seems he really is trying to divorce himself from the republican brand to get elected. He's agreeing with the president on student loans, he's agreeing with the president on immigration and the DREAM act, he agrees with the president on the new equal-pay law. And now he's calling for fairness?

It's going to be interesting to see what other issues Romney agrees with Mr Obama on.

"I'll cut the deficit by half by my first term in office."

I wonder. Did he say that before or after the Bush economy collapsed?

This is about as honest as Romney's commercial in which he quoted Obama quoting McCain and acted like it was Obama's own quote.

Why can't you guys ever fight fair?

What's even sadder is he was talking about halving the +1 trillion deficit from his first year, not the deficit from Bush's last year.

So does taxing the rich more help cut our deficit without cutting government spending??

No one has said anything about not cutting spending. To balance the budget it is going to take both cutting spending and raising the revenue we need. Adding 3% to the tax rate for higher income earners is not socialism or the end of America.

Most I'd wager. They're both moderate conservatives, by American standards.

We all need to make sacrifices, so I proposed to eliminate all Bush tax cuts for all income levels and cut 25% of govt spending across the board. Or we could reduce everyone taxes and still downsize our govt. We need a smaller, efficient govt.

The only sacrifices the US government has legislated since 1945 is other people's. Fat chance, bet on catastrophe before compromise.

Obama tried doing something very similar to this, "the grand bargain," and Boehner was ready to support it before his underling and boss Eric Cantor said no. It was the most GOP friendly cuts bill imaginable and it hit entitlements hard; any Republican would think they won the lottery to have a Democrat president willing to go for it, but nothing is radical enough for Eric Cantor. So instead a deal was struck to force cuts over the coming year. That is the deal that the Republicans are reneging on this week, which will possibly lead to a government shutdown. Why? They don't want a single dollar in new revenues and they won't cut a single dollar to our bloated defense budget. Who are the deficit hawks? Who are the fiscal conservatives? Hint: when they win a state, it is not colored red on the big board.

    Good News For Romney...

When I golf on the weekends, the majority of the gentlemen in the clubhouse tend to favor Romney and HATE Obama.
