Except this isn't true. While true that Hillary was generally favored, Obama and Edwards were both considered realistic contenders. No one had Giuliani as any type of prohibitive favorite - he wasn't even at 30% and had major problems with the religious wing of the party. Hillary was polling in the 30-40% range throughout all of 2007 while Obama was in the 20-30% range. Here's a list of all the polls: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation...Democratic_Party_2008_presidential_candidates http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation...Republican_Party_2008_presidential_candidates In early June of 2007: Hillary 37% Obama 23% Comparatively, here's today: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/ep..._democratic_presidential_nomination-3824.html Clinton: 60% Sanders: 11%
Hopefully conservatives don't imprison or murder them for sport like they did gays. Or civil rights activists, who they also used call to Marxists, while they were murdering them. Man, conservatives were real assholes back then, don't need a straw poll for that!
Are modern economics not essentially "Marxist" ? Modern psychology not essentially "Freudian"? Modern biology not essentially "Darwinian"? Or is this some kind of dog-whistling I'm not privy to?
Great news for the Progressive message, it's striking a chord. The real target is to start flipping some Congressional seats to candidates that take a stand for the people they serve rather than the corporate interest that buy elections. It's an uphill fight against against the landslide of bought propaganda. Bernie's 'victory' will be just getting people to think past the controlled messages. The real turn when it comes will be from a more charismatic character. Possibly one that comes with a "Christian" message of anti materialism, sacrifice for community, tolerance for individual choice and introspection. Think Jed Bartlett, but younger. I don't have a clue whom it could be, but he/she should show up around 2020. It's always a coalescence of moral superiority that overcomes plutocracy. The people (or masses, ha ) have too see themselves as joining a part of the more moral struggle, the 'better future for their children' movement. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rtBVuye4fZQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It can be argued that socialist ideas helped build this country... Also, you must haven't heard Bernie's views on immigration so I wouldn't beat your chest if I where you. Your best chance would be against Clinton IMO.
It seems to me that admitting you are a socialist in this country has historically being a lot like admitting you are a homosexual. Yes, this is correct. But both disparagements are bull****, paid for by autocrats that don't allow for people's freedom as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States. If I 'm gay, BFD, what the dif to you. If I have progressive ideals that just means I'm more altruistic than you. Probably better informed too. The thing that makes this country great, it's coffee really, but also, it's when the people get together to do something great like the interstate highway system or social security. Private enterprise can't do that. And if the government can't, fix it, improve it, modernize it, hire the best people and pay them like private industry.
No man, we are speed freak achievers. Liquid motivation eight hours a day. Get **** done! It's a national trait.
They elected a black man with the middle name Hussein and a last name that rhymes with Osama. That would be like if war hero Ike would have lost to someone named Frederick Hitler Skalin back in the 50's. On a more serious note, it should be noted that Wisconsin has a long history of Progressivism and even leftism. I believe the Wisconsin Democratic Party is still called something like the Workers and Farmers Labor Party or something, from back when the Democratic party there merged with an actual socialist party decades ago. This is also the state that had the pro-union take over of the capital building several years ago.
Goddam hero of American history! Robert Marion "Fighting Bob" La Follette Sr. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_M._La_Follette_Sr.
