There are 5 NBA coaches named "Mike." All of them are ranked 14th or lower.
    Why do owners never learn?

About right for regular season, I would rank him lower for playoff though.

Sounds about right. He's not a horrible coach. But the team would be better served if they had someone who was more of an Xs and Os guy and who preached defense more consistently.

I would agree with the important part of that list. I also think JKidd would've been dead last two months ago.

Surprised to see McHale higher than Adelman.

I believe they take team record into account, but did not give enough weight to the talent level of each team. If you switch Adelman and McHale, I am certain Houston would have a better record and Minn would have a worse record than they do now. I would expect McHale to be between 15-20.

Steve Clifford. Put that team in the west, he'd be ranked 27th on that list. C'mon.

    I'm only partially surprised.

In spite of Adelman's impressive resume, his performance since he arrived on the Timberwolves has been underwhelming. While tactically he is one of the better coaches in the NBA, he has a reputation of not being particularly close to his players which also works against him with some players.

So good for some types of players, not so good for others. With a somewhat middling record as of recent years.

I'm okay with it given his tenure in Minnesota.

Sounds about right. McHale isn't terrible but he's not good either.

Carlisle and Spoelstra should be switched.

I think people that say this (Rox need more X's and O's guy) should really have to couple that statement with what type of X's and O's basketball you prefer the Rockets to be running.

The Rockets offensive identity is what it is right now for better or worse at this point of the season, but if you or anyone thinks they should be running a completely different type of offense I and I'm sure others are all ears.

I guess my main question to people that say this is that, is it the McHale/Rockets system you hate (cause it can look pretty damn ugly at times just due to the nature of what it is) which I TOTALLY understand (I hate it at times too), or do we really just hate McHale because.... well... he's a convenient scapegoat after bad games?

So do you want the system to change, or do you just want McHale to change with the same system because switching out the coach without switching the system could cause residual damage either in the locker room with relationships, communication, etc.

My point is, if you do like the system, my suggestion is that you should opt to try and keep McHale since the Rockets run this system so well most nights, and are only going to get better at running it with better supporting players and team chemistry.

Anyways.... sorry, pet peeve of mine. On the defensive end... they are a top 10 defense in the league (much of that has to do with Dwight). Better guard (Lin & Harden) on the ball defense would be nice I agree, but how much of that is Harden/Lin and how much of that is McHale?

I get the frustration directed at McHale, but if you actually sit back and think about the entirety of the situation, much of the frustration really isn't solved just with changing McHale with a better coach like Karl, or a Van Gundy.

If they did this last year, how much different would Mike Woodson be? Not saying I disagree, but some of these are very "what have you done for me lately" and not a true list of the best.

A pretty decent list. I like Brad Stevens and think he's done half decently considering what he's been given, but he's ranked to high right now.
