Thanks for the clarification. I guess I was thinking about the regular MVP awards which is usually given after the 1st round.
And some would have you believe that his "ball pressure and arm flailing" makes him LOOK like a good defender, but that he actually isn't that effective.
This is why the "Bev can't guard 6'7" guys so he can't help us against (insert wing player who kills us)" doesn't make sense. When your PG disrupts the entire offense by pressuring the ball-handler full or 3/4 court it throws the opposition's entire offense out of whack. A guy can be on fire and have the luxury of having Harden check him but if his PG can't get him the ball where and when he likes it, he can't torch us. Hurt us? Yes but not to the same extent he would catching a perfect pass in his sweet spot with 18 seconds on the shot clock.
That's the thing about Bev though, he gets right in the grill of his man, and sometimes the refs slap some quick fouls on him, takes him out of the game. I'm hoping they don't call it as tight in the playoffs...
I think those are in response to ppl who say he would have directly shut down Corey Brewer. I agree that he would have harried Rubio enough for us to win and Brewer might have had fewer opportunites.
I think what Beverley does is what I would want every single Blazer to do. I'm not saying he's dirty. I'm saying he goes right to the line, which is what you should do. There's a big difference between him and a punk like Laimbeer or Rick Fox.
