What's up with all of these athletes getting arrested for domestic violence all of a sudden?

Dude its always been this way-probably worse.

Social media and the Ray Rice video really put it front and center.

Domestic violence has always been around. Jason Kidd has struck his wife many times. He is probably one of the sleaziest athletes in professional sports. This topic just wasn't front and center until the Ray Rice video, publicity, and scandal of a cover up.

This may come off as insensitive, but I have a feeling that if this happens in 3 years, he'd get a minor suspension and that would be that. But he got arrested at the wrong time so the NBA probably throws the book at him.

The NBA has an umbrella policy that has been around but it comes under felony and only if you're convicted, please guilty/no contest -- automatic 10 game suspension.

The NBA normally waits for the final outcome before handing out the suspension.

It's an old policy and I thought on NBA.com they recently said because of all the stuff going on in the NFL they were going to revisit that policy.

This is not exclusive to just athletes -- it's all around us everyday in our communities.
