Embarrassed that I was unaware of how TMac ranks in postseason games. Look at the cast below him. http://aol.nba.com/statistics/encyc/Player.jsp PLAYER NAME PPG 1 Michael Jordan 33.4 2 Allen Iverson 30.6 3 Tracy McGrady 29.8 4 Jerry West 29.1 5 Vince Carter 27.3 6 Elgin Baylor 27.0 7 George Gervin 27.0 8 Hakeem Olajuwon 25.9 9 Dirk Nowitzki 25.7 10 Shaquille O'Neal 25.6 11 Bob Pettit 25.5 12 Dwyane Wade 25.4 13 Dominique Wilkins 25.4 14 Ray Allen 24.9 15 Rick Barry 24.8 16 Karl Malone 24.7 17 Paul Pierce 24.5 18 Bernard King 24.5 19 Alex English 24.4 20 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 24.3 21 Paul Arizin 24.2 22 Tim Duncan 24.1 23 George Mikan 24.0 24 Larry Bird 23.8 25 Charles Barkley 23.0 26 Kobe Bryant 22.9 27 David Thompson 22.9 28 Bob Love 22.9 29 Elvin Hayes 22.9 30 Wilt Chamberlain 22.5 31 Kevin Garnett 22.3 32 Oscar Robertson 22.2 33 Moses Malone 22.1 34 John Havlicek 22.0 35 Julius Erving 21.9 36 Marques Johnson 21.5 37 Jojo White 21.5 38 Doug Collins 21.5 39 Adrian Dantley 21.3 40 Lou Hudson 21.3 41 Chris Webber 21.1 42 James Worthy 21.1 43 Richard Hamilton 21.0 44 Walt Frazier 20.7 45 Reggie Miller 20.6 46 Clyde Drexler 20.4 47 Hal Greer 20.4 48 Cliff Hagan 20.4 49 Anfernee Hardaway 20.4 50 Isiah Thomas 20.4
i always found it funny that people bashed tmac for his lack of success in the playoffs, but the fact is that he played BETTER in the playoffs. the guy just cant do it all himself
He steps up. It's what's expected of him, and he does it. Yet he's constantly slammed for his competitive fire, which is ludicrous.
I wasn't bashing him when I said that. I don't think that he has choked at all but I want to see what his numbers are like after he has played a ton of games in the playoffs. For players that have played over 100 games in the playoffs it would look like this: Jordan West Baylor Olajuwon Shaq Malone Kareem Duncan Bird Barkley Now that is a sample size of games.
There is more to good basketball than pretty stats. The ability to step and play D, to get those around you involved. It's not like T-Mac is out to make sure he gets his. His goal is to win. What's his shooting percentage, assists, and turnovers for the playoffs?
Playoffs PPG - 29.8 Shooting % - 44.1% Assists - 5.8 Turnovers - 3.3 Regular Season PPG - 22.2 Shooting % - 44.0% Assists - 4.5 Turnovers - 2.3
Very impressive numbers, I think he's just had to carry such a large load in the past that i may have been too much for him. That being said, this year I think once we get in to the playoffs with Yao playing like he was before the injury, it could be a very scary site for the other teams in the west
The stats dont even account for the way he vastly improves his defense. I think the Mavs series is the best we have ever seen out of him.
well tmac has played less games than most of those players, but he still steps up his game in the playoffs.
Points alone don't mean you stepped up I can say Iverson's 76er team that made it to the finals was probably one of the weakest teams that went all the way I ever saw Beyond him and deke .. that team was barely mediocre Rocket River Winning is what matters
One man can't do it all. Look at Dream during the late 80's early 90's. Even he couldn't get it done without a supporting cast.
one of the reasons for t-mac's high rank is his young age. as he gets older, his production will drop. With that said though, tmac is definitely the BEST player to never have won a playoff series. btw, i am very surprised that wilt ranked so low in his ppg.
Exactly. Now he has some players around him and Yao was rockin' ... it's going to be a very good year. A few others missed the point. The only 'stat' that shows up on the scoreboard is points. That makes it a very special 'stat' (you're really making ma say that ). Top three in anything in the play-offs is remarkable, but top 3 in points... well...
There is no doubt that T-Mac has performed well in the playoffs but as someone else said - he can't do it all. Unfortunately, we live in a society where it doesn't matter what you do, if you don't win a championship, you are considered a failure. Why else do you think guys like Gary Payton and Alonzo Mourning signed for chickenfeed to play on the Heat last year? Both of those guys were going to make the Hall of Fame, regardless if they had a ring or not. Yet they felt they had to have that ring to validate their HOF career (Payton was so desperate for the ring that the Heat was the 2nd team that he joined, hoping to get a ring - the Lakers being the first) - pretty sad that they feel this way. However, they are made to feel that way by the media. I hope that McGrady doesn't fall for that bunk.
