The Rockets are going to make some big deals this summer, and the only names I have heard about is slashing small forwards. I know we have tons of talent at the 4, but I really think that if we could some how get the defencive specialist Ben Wallace I would think we would be sitting good. He is very unselfish and he brings tons of rebounds and blocks. Put him with are young gaurds, and I think we could contend!

    Hey newbie,
Defense is spelt with an "s" and so is 'defensive'. But other than that, the Rockets do need better defense to be a better team next year.

No need to call him a name. He's just voicing his opinion and 'defence' is correct in the English language, everywhere but the US. Just like it's mum not mom.

Dr Basketball, Wallace would be an amzing pickup but Detriot isn't going to let him go. We have to look at other options.

I would love for the Rocks to get a big man who plays d and rebounds, whether it be a 4 or a 5.

Ben isn't going anywhere. We have to find a diamond in the rough and hope he develops, either through fagency or the draft.

Really this team needs it all though. Offense, deffense, court savy. :)

Ben Wallace is wearing a velcro jersey. And Joe Dumars and Rick Carlisle have mittens on with the other side of the velcro that sticks like glue. Ben Wallace is the key to Detroit's success. Jerry stackhouse...eh, Kobe, Pierce, Carter, ect. Cliff Robinson..eh, Fox, Rodgers, Joe Smith, ect. Atkins, Barry, Williamson, whoever else...eh. NO ONE in the NBA is like Wallace. He is a blocked shots and rebounding machine.

If we proposed any sort of trade with Detroit for Big Ben, they'd laugh in our face.

Wallace is untouchable. With good reason.

We need a SF, that will help us run, and knows how to pass on the fast break.

Agreed Sane. We need a talent infusion. We need a player with Francis like skills only taller. We don't have any good big people.

I see Butler as being like Artest on the defensive side of the floor. He's quick, hard-nosed, not terribly tall, but has a big body to bang around with some of the SG's and SF's in the league.

The only difference is that Butler would give us an offensive presence as well. I see Butler as a mix between Battier and Artest. I would definitely trade a pick for Battier. He gives us great defense, intensity, smartness, and he's got the outside stroke Rudy loves.

    Imagine a team like this

    Duncan
    Ben Wallace
    Ron Artest
    Bruce Bowen
    Gary Payton

Who can score on that? LOL, but how much can they score? LOL! They can hold opponents to like 65 ppg. Duncan can average 25, Payton 22, Artest 12. That's 59. Can Bowen, Wallace, and the bench average 12ppg?

LOL, that would be so boring though. The other team would struggle to TAKE shots, not make them.

If they had Mobley off the bench, they'd be unbeatable.

I always hear about how good Ben Wallace is and when I watch him play he is damn good but the thing I dont undertand is why people like Cato can't play like Wallace. When I see Ben Wallace sure he has talent but most everything comes from EFFORT. Cato has the size and strength to atleast be atleast as half a player Wallace is and I'm sure any Rockets fan would settle for that. Hell, Cato is already decent at blocking shots.

Furthermore, the thing I dont understand is Cato seemed to play very well when we first aqcuired him..... I remember one game especially where he played very well against the Suns in the 99-00 season and when he blocked Shaq on Super Bowl sunday which led to a Rockets victory. ( I probably remember these moments cause they're so rare) And when he was compared to Olowakandi on some Sports Site he clearly beat out Kandi for best upcomming young center yet what the hell happened to Cato? Cato..... If you're reading this please put in some damn effort and quit underachieving. The skys the limit for a man of your size and skill. Well not really but you should be a lot better

The reason is because Cato's not in good shape, and gathers a lot mroe fouls I think. Some people just have a better knack for defense.

But I'm definitely sure that after this season, if Cato continues with the same effort, he will get much better defensively and offensively. That comes from learning player tendencies, experience, and teammates' trust in him.

If you watch an NBA game, most of the players do not go 100% all the time.

The reason Rodman was such a good rebounder is that he gave WAY more effort then the other players. Wallace is the same.

Players that play with a lot of emotion and energy always get more out of their talent then the ones who coast.

I read an interesting comment from Magic Johnson once. I will try to paraphase it:

"When you get to the level of play in the NBA, all of the players are exceptionally talented. Often, the only difference between one player and another is the difference in their mental attitude."

rebel - I believe you should have used the word "spelled" instead of "spelt". I am not aware that "spelt" is correct grammar anywhere...:D

Then again, maybe Greg M will tell us that's how it's done in England. ;)

there somewhere is a guy who could became a second coming of Ben Wallace : As a sophomore, he averaged 21 points, 17 rebounds and 11 blocks and once swatted 17 shots in a game. His senior season he led St. Jude with 29 points, 16 rebounds and just under 13 blocked shots per game (though he missed the final 11 games with a knee injury). He drew raves when he dominated Tyson Chandler at the Nike All American Camp in Indianapolis.
Denver picked him ~#40 in last year draft. later i heard he worked with Bulls.
what happened with Ousmane Cisse????? he could bring both : and rebounding; and defense.
