[Woj] Scott Skiles Emerges as Frontrunner for Magic HC Search

Oh brother! Scott Skiles isn't who you want in this ERA of the NBA. He just isn't wired like the rest of us. He'll burn out player relationships within a couple of years.

Chicago is just playing hardball to get a good second rounder btw. But they won't coz the Magic's is too high and too much worth for a coach his team doesn't want.

No his problem is he alienates his own players. If a young player makes a mistake in defence he goes to the doghouse never to be seen again. He always gets two -three crappy vets to play over the youngs.
That's one of the reasons (+dumb owner) Tobias was traded. Skilles never believed him and never gave him PT even though he was a 1st round pick. And he's such a bad personality that you know he won't sit down and talk to him and try to fix their relationship.
What will happen is this : the fist season the Magic will have many more wins and play better defence and bad offence. Fournier will be shipped out and Vuc will collide with the coach. Next season the players will start to get tired of him and by the third season they will hate him and start tune him out. But Magic is full of young players who will be RFA and may look to leave. That's why it's stupid. Skiles comes with an expiration date. He won't make it past 3 seasons tops.
He's like Thibs on drugs + bad personality.

 

The Front office has made a smearing campaign all season long with local media, radio, tv commentators all blaming Thibs pt and rotations for injuries. It started this year from the start of the season. They hired a trainer and she decides how long the players can play not Thibs.

That's why now they have no leverage to get compensation for firing him, they had made their intentions known all season long that they will fire him.

 

The story to me is the Magic possibly wanting to pay Harris 12-14. He fills the stat sheet but doesn't help teams win.

 

would you like to pay max money to a player who hates your coach and is lobbying for NY or LA so he can get a fat Nike bonus? Skiles won't help convincing him to stay.

BTW Harris is only 22 and though I'm not confident in his defensive improvement I can see him being a few times all star in the east.

Skiles will get the team playing hard and smart, and if the young talent develops in 2-3 years they'll be ready to contend in the East and they can hire someone less intense.
