Inspired by the poll on the ESPN front page.

Who in your (unbiased) opinion is the best player in the NFL and why?

Peyton Manning. No player in the NFL has as much impact on a game.

Watt and Calvin will be on 4 win teams if all the other pieces arent perfect.

Manning will be on a 10-12 win team if every aspect of the team sucks.

The poll most be best non-QB. Quarterbacks have too great an impact. Watt had arguably the greatest defensive season last year and we went 2-14. No way a QB has a great season and his team wins 2 games.

    For me,

Peyton, JJ and Calvin are the undisputed 3 best players in football

I have to go with Peyton Manning. I know everyone like's to pile on him for his abysmal Super Bowl w/l record, but he is objectively the most impactful, skilled, and feared QB in the entire game. As someone else said, he could have an utterly mediocre team and still lead them to a 10 win season.

Is Peyton unarguably the best player in his position though?
    Is it close with Brees/Rodgers?

No player has more of an impact than Peyton Manning, though you could make an argument that Watt and Calvin are better at what they do, only by a slight margin though.

Those 3 are without question the 3 best players in the game, though.

I look at it this way...when was the last time Peyton didnt get his team into the playoffs? He has won 10+ games in the regular season 13 out of the 15 seasons he has played. The last time he failed to hit 10+ wins was in 2001 when he was just a young buck. When he missed 2011, the same Colts team he had led to 9 consecutive playoff runs, magically dropped to last place in the NFL.

Drew Brees has as many 10+ win seasons as he does 9 or under win seasons.

Aaron Rodgers is the closest thing to Manning, but I still dont think he can control a game like Manning can.

Tom Brady is obviously up there too...but when Tom goes out with a knee injury and Cassell replaced him, the Patriots still reeled off 11 wins. That alone gives the edge to Peyton.

I think so. At least for the regular season

Come playoff time I would still take Brady every time over Peyton. But he doesn't always have the same focus Peyton has, especially during the regular season.

Obviously it is either Richard Sherman or Joe Thomas

The best corner or the best left tackle in the game trumps a linebacker.

JJ Watt is probably has the best on-screen acting ability in the nfl besides Peyton Manning, of course.

    So he is multi-skilled.

But to say he or calvin are better than Sherman or Joe Thomas, it's a stretch.

    Trade Watt for Matt Ryan.
