Backup C will be DMo and then Capela. But I am bullish that Harrell will be really good as a small ball C.
What on earth makes you feel uneasy about Capella? He's one of the players I'm most excited to see play next season. An entire off-season + Lawson dishing to him aswell as Harden.... He atleast knows his offense on this team is pick and roll to the hoop. Him getting more minutes is only a positive.
I think there's no way that Minnesota would do it -- if they wanted to move Dieng, price would be much higher than this. He's a good player, he's good on both ends, he moves the ball well, and he's even slowly increasing his range. He's on a cheap rookie deal for a couple more years, when he'd get 8 digits annually in open market. Great piece, if they decide to move him at some point, they'll get something good in return. Most likely they are keeping him, IMO. Pekovic is a question marks. Plus Dieng should be able to play some minutes next to Towns, or maybe even a lot of minutes, depending on both of their progress.
ppatt not sure what we need to make contracts work, he makes MLE love what morey has done by staying flexiable, but can't help to think if we would be won it all last year if when they went to toronto they offered lowry $12mill ppatt $MLE instead of papa lowry harden ariza ppatt howard championship
This. I like Capela as a future player. but he is too raw to be just given minutes those kind of minutes especially if Dwight has issues which is bound to happen. DMo can fill in as a backup C but he himself has back issues that playing extended minutes (especially at C against the biggest, strongest) will only exasperate. And if we lose DMo due to too many minutes, then that puts more pressure on Jones. It becomes a house of cards. I feel good about our 2 deep lineup...except at C. We need more experience.
This might be totally true but just hopeful in taking advantage of the situation. While I think they'd love to trade Pekovic, I personally don't think they can trade him right now. He needs floor time to bring his value up. That time has to come from someone and it won't be Towns. That only leaves taking it from Dieng. Minny's focus will be on Towns, Bennett and Wiggins. I know they rather keep Dieng over Pekovic because of age and salary but they might be open to a trade to balance out the roster or draw in fans. And if Pekovic is untradeable, then Dieng is just wasting time and losing value if he is stuck on the bench. Now will our 2015 #1 pick in Dekker be enough. He does have Big 10 connections which can add to the fan base while they rebuild. But you might be right in that Dekker is not enough...just hoping...
Our current roster consists of: Harden Howard Jones DMo Bev Lawson Ariza Brewer KJ Capela Harrell Dekker Thornton Don't think wood will get signed. Likely will fill the roster with Terry and Chuck but if we move someone (jones? Harrell?) I'd like to pick up Mike Miller as a knockdown specialist and huge veteran presence on this team. especially if terry doesn't resign too.
Jones and Capela For JVal Balances out the roster. Ariza playing back up PF in a small ball line up. Dekker grows into the role over time. Plus we have Chuck, too. Val has not had any real coaching in TORONTO --> his upside has not been tapped at all. He is already a 15 and 9 player now and good FT shooter. Insurance for Howard health, size of contract in FA, or if he walks. Keeps the championship window open longer. The Raptors need a Jones type player to pair with Patterson. Capella is too raw.
Ariza, DMo, and Dekker for Al Horford and Sefolosha Atlanta has huge hole at SF and Horford can walk in a year. This trade allows them to balance out the roster and they would have a restricted DMo next year vs an unrestricted Horford. Teague / Schroder Korver / Hardaway Ariza / Dekker Millsap / Scott Splitter / DMo Lawson / Beverley Harden / Thornton Brewer / Sefolosha / KJ Horford / TJones / Harrell Howard / Capela / Hayes
I like Horford, but let us not sell the farm to get him on a unrestricted status. Ariza is much more valuable than Sefolosha. Be patient till a better opportunity is present.
Horford is a true difference maker for this team. He can either play as a floor stretching 4 next to Howard, or a dominant small ball 5. You have enough pieces at small forward that you can figure it out. One of Thabo, McDaniels, or Brewer will be good enough of a wing defender that you can survive the loss of Ariza.
