Last nights CMA's aired in place of the show "Blackish", so at the beginning of the program, Brad Paisley made this joke..

"If you were looking for "Black-ish" tonight, yeah, this ain't it. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy White-ish."

Honestly, it sounds to me like he's making fun of white people and country music's typical audience..I don't think its racist at all.

    Heres the article:

    http://www.freep.com/story/entertai.../11/05/brad-paisley-cma-racist-joke/18569411/

Here's a helping of controversy to go with your country music.

Before Darius Rucker took the stage, co-host Brad Paisley took a jab at the CMAs audience with a joke about ABC's new comedy "Black-ish," which usually airs Wednesday nights.

If you were looking for "Black-ish" tonight, yeah, this ain't it. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy White-ish.

Although many laughed off the remark on Twitter, others weren't too happy:

    Jayci Martin @princess_jayci
    I really hope I just heard #bradpaisley wrong. #racist

    zack @zdessent
Brad Paisley just confirmed that country music is racist with that racist joke about 'Black-ish'

    Jalomi Balmi @NilordS
@ABCNetwork how racist can you all be right now on the CMAs,discussing President Obama and his democratic loss & the hit tv show Blackish

awkward when they make darius rucker present right after the blackish joke #CMAawards #CMAs #cmaawards2014

Seriously? This is a controversy? This is why I hate Twitter. It was a joke, I watched it live and I laughed.

It was actually fairly witty. Too bad people get their panties in a bunch so easily.

    I agree with this.

Twitter - good for up-to-the-second factual reporting; bad for everything else.

That joke is way down the list on the 'racism' scale. Are any of those twitter people any one that I should have heard of or are they just random users?

I don't know if it's funny because I didn't see it, but how is it racist?

    Who was he insulting?

I'm going to guess that 99% of the CMA presenters and winners and audience members throughout that show were all white. How is jokingly calling it "whiteish" any more "racist" than calling a show "blackish" on ABC?

Seems like just some random people. My wife was watching last night and didn't mention it at all.

It doesn't sound even slightly racist.

It's too bad someone in the media decides this is a story because some people commented on it on a social media site where the only pre-requisite to making said comments are to have an e-mail address and an internet connection.

    A) it's not racist and actually pretty funny
    B) this is not a story

What's worse? Some idiots on Twitter proving themselves to be as such? Or people commenting on those people and making it a story?

Though I haven't seen "Blackish," from the promos I get that part of the joke in the show's name is that the characters are African-Americans who don't "act as black" as other African-Americans.

The Paisley joke was witty because, though the artists and audience are predominantly Caucasian, at least the artists themselves don't "act as white" as other Caucasians since they are playing music which has draw many influences from non-white artists.

From Laurence Fishburne (one of the stars of Black-ish):

FISHBURNE: Here’s the thing about our title. Our title is a little bit of a wink. It’s a bit of a joke because, ultimately, if you live in America and you’ve been in America, let’s say, for the last 10, 15, 20 years, you’re probably a little Black-ish anyway. So that’s what’s wonderful about our title, and that’s really what it means. Everybody’s a little Jewish. Everybody’s a little Black-ish, you know?

I'll go with the reporter who decided that this is news.

I really hate this trend of 'reporting' random twitter and facebook posts as news. Seem like we're seeing it more and more lately. Lazy reporting.

    +1

It is truly sad that reporters these days don't engage in actual journalism these days. It is all about entertainment value, shock value, drawing eyeballs to the website or television screen.

People go out of their way to find things to be outraged about. Twitter is fun when you follow basketball and weird accounts, not Outrage Twitter. I can't imagine how people sustain that level of anger.

No more "racist" than what Joe Biden, Bill Maher and Jon Stewart say. In fact, racism is central to Maher and Stewart's act.

Does not seem racist to me. Shouldn't have been made into a story.
