Just bs to try to white wash the whole fiasco. We were lied into an unnecessary war by a large portion of our war mongering politicos. The war killed hundreds of thousands of innocents and created ISIL. It is vital for American interests as well as the world to admit our horrible mistake so we don't allow this type of crimes against humanity in our name.

I guess you would consider this a conspiracy theory but it is well known that once you start a major war it is hard to predict the results. That is why you don't start stupid elective wars. In this case the dire predictions of the critics who were not cooking the data proved to be much more accurate than the "mission accomplished" crowd.

Just for those misguided souls tempted to vote GOP because Hilary voted for Dubya's Folly i.e the Gulf War. Here is the Senate vote on the mess.

    Party Yeas Nays
    Republican 48 1
    Democratic 29 21
    Independent 0 1
    TOTALS 77 23

Rand has already shown he would not be the lone Republican to go against the grain.

I think polls shifted strongly towards pro-invasion once it became inevitable that's what Bush was planning to do, but throughout there was a huge anti-war movement in this country.

Had you said something like "a lot of people" or perhaps "a majority of people," instead of "everyone," it would have been closer to the truth. Many people were against it at the time, some of them saying so here. I did.

While we are at it time to correct some of the historical revisionism and rediscover some purposedly buried history about the first Gulf War.

Let start with the vote: Most of the Senate probably knew it was bs but you know you never want to look weak and be accused of being Neville Chamberlain etc.

    ]Gulf War

The Persian Gulf War (August 2, 1990 – February 28, 1991), commonly referred to as simply ..... The Senate supported the military actions in a 52-47 vote. ... The details of the Hill & Knowlton public relations campaign, including the incubator

Also though annoying to say the least that old Sadam did not back down until we had moved 500,000 troops to his border he had agreed to remove his troops from our beloved Kuwait and was doing so when we launched the attack quickly as in another couple of days all his troops would have been back in Iraq.

Of course the US with the famous Ms .Gillepsie had to say the least given him mied signals about whether we were going to be upset before he went into Kuwait.

Because the Gillepsie deception deserves its own post and really its own thread and own seminar and needs to be repeated over and over because we did kill hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children with sanctions before the evil second War by Dubya.
A transcript of her meeting w Sadam before he invaded Kuwait.
    >>>>>>>

Saddam Hussein - As you know, for years now I have made every effort to reach a settlement on our dispute with Kuwait. There is to be a meeting in two days; I am prepared to give negotiations only this one more brief chance. (pause) When we (the Iraqis) meet (with the Kuwaitis) and we see there is hope, then nothing will happen. But if we are unable to find a solution, then it will be natural that Iraq will not accept death.

U.S. Ambassador Glaspie – What solutions would be acceptable?

    To see more.

Saddam Hussein - If we could keep the whole of the Shatt al Arab – our strategic goal in our war with Iran – we will make concessions (to the Kuwaitis). But, if we are forced to choose between keeping half of the Shatt and the whole of Iraq (i.e., in Saddam s view, including Kuwait ) then we will give up all of the Shatt to defend our claims on Kuwait to keep the whole of Iraq in the shape we wish it to be. (pause) What is the United States’ opinion on this?

U.S. Ambassador Glaspie – We have no opinion on your Arab – Arab conflicts, such as your dispute with Kuwait. Secretary (of State James) Baker has directed me to emphasize the instruction, first given to Iraq in the 1960′s, that the Kuwait issue is not associated with America. (Saddam smiles)

On August 2, 1990, Saddam massed troops to invade and occupy Kuwait. _____

    Baghdad, September 2, 1990, U.S. Embassy

One month later, British journalists obtain the the above tape and transcript of the Saddam – Glaspie meeting of July 29, 1990. Astounded, they confront Ms. Glaspie as she leaves the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

Journalist 1 – Are the transcripts (holding them up) correct, Madam Ambassador?(Ambassador Glaspie does not respond)
