Griffin needs to be the top scorer on the team and 1st option on offense if the Clippers are to win it all. But I believe he was that last year and Rivers ran a lot of plays to him in crunchtime last season. I wouldn't say CP3 is fools gold. He has an unbelievable assist to turnover ratio and he also leads the league in assists and steals pretty much every year. He often takes it upon himself to also provide scoring and that's when he gets out of what he does best, which is to set up the offense and get the ball to the right personnel. The Clippers had the top offense in the NBA last year and it's primarily because CP3 made scoring a lot easier for all of his teammates.
It looked like the hitch in his shot wasn't as bad, but it was probably the angle. I imagine once he gets in a game situation he will re-develop the same stupid hitch in his shot.
How about the Lakers with Magic Johnson...or the Pistons with Isiah Thomas...or the Spurs with Tony Parker?
Well, since the original comment was regarding contenders with the point guard as their best player and not NBA Champions, I can throw in the following: John Stockton with the Jazz (equal to Malone in significance), Gary Payton with the Sonics, Steve Nash with the Suns, and Derek Rose (pre-injury) with the Bulls. Oh yeah, and Jason Kidd with the Nets.
If Blake ever develops proper footwork, he'd be the best post player in the nba, at that point the Clippers could potentially win, but while come playoff time, you can just force him left, not so much.
I meant recently. Like in the past decade. The game has changed a lot. And if Tony Parker was the Spurs best player he would have won finals MVP.
Well Dirk and Duncan are the only power forwards who were the best players on their team when they won a championship in the past decade or so that I can think of. Been a long time for a point guard if you don't count Tony Parker.
