Rumors are it is to "mentor" Anthony Davis, but Perkins must have not had any suitors and the Pels are spending a hell of a lot of money at C. They already paid Asik and Ajinca a combined $13.5M and those guys will get all the minutes, before even accounting for "small" ball lineups with Davis at C. I know people love Chuck Hayes, but I would have preferred Perkins to him for the minimum and we probably could have promised Perkins way more minutes by taking at least a partial Duncan/Spurs approach to keeping Dwight healthy and rested. Plus we are actually a contender and the Pelicans are going to be clawing for a 7th/8th seed, at best. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/13297744/new-orleans-pelicans-sign-kendrick-perkins-contract
i would also much rather have kendrick perkins than chuck hayes. you can't teach size. you can't teach nba champion experience either.
Don't forget the speed of a statue is also hard to learn. Davis is gonna have a hell of a teacher.
