USA Basketball Names Gersson Rosas International Player Personnel Scout For USA Men’s National Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (August 3, 2015) – USA Basketball Chairman and National Team Managing Director Jerry Colangelo today announced that Gersson Rosas, Houston Rockets Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, has been named International Player Personnel Scout for USA Basketball’s Men’s National Team.

“It’s an incredible honor and a special privilege to join the USA Men’s National Team in this capacity,” said Rosas. “I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and I trust my NBA experience, as well as my international scouting background will contribute to the highly successful program Jerry Colangelo and Coach Mike Krzyzewski have built.”

“We’re excited to add Gersson to our staff. His experience with the Houston Rockets and his familiarity with international basketball are valuable assets,” said Colangelo. “As the International Player Personnel Scout for our national team he’ll assist the coaching staff with international scouting and help in the our preparations for international competitions.”

Rosas is entering his 12th season with the Houston Rockets and his fourth as Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations. He served as the General Manager of the Dallas Mavericks in the summer of 2013 before returning to Houston in his current role. He moved into his current role after working the prior three seasons (2009-12) as Vice President of Player Personnel.

In 2008-09, Rosas served as Houston’s Director of Player Personnel after working one campaign as the team’s Director of Scouting and three seasons as the team’s Personnel Scout/Video Coordinator.

In his current position, Rosas assists Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey in all basketball operations of the franchise and continues to be responsible for the team’s player personnel matters, which includes leading the organization’s efforts in evaluating draft prospects, free agents and potential trade targets. In addition, he continues overseeing domestic and international scouting, while also assisting in the coordination of the team’s Player Development program.

In addition to his duties with the Rockets, Rosas previously served as the General Manager for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, which is Houston’s single-affiliation NBA Development League partner. In his four full seasons as Rio Grande Valley’s GM, the Vipers took home the 2009-10 and 2012-13 D-League championships, reached three D-League Finals, compiled a 126-74(.630) regular season record and had ten players earn All-NBA D-League honors.

Prior to his present stint with the Rockets, Rosas’ experience includes work as head coach of Global Games Prep USA Team during the summer of 2004, as a graduate assistant for the men’s basketball team at the University of Houston (2003-04), as an assistant coach on Westbury Christian High School’s state championship team (2002-03) and as a basketball coordinator for the Venezuelan Basketball Federation during the 2002 World Basketball Championships.

Rosas has been an active participant in the NBA’s Basketball without Borders program, serving as camp director of Global Camp 2015 in New York City, the 2014 Toronto Team Camp, 2013 Americas Camp in Buenos Aires, the 2011 Americas Camp in Rio de Janeiro and the 2009 Americas Camp in Mexico City.

A native of Bogotá, Colombia, Rosas graduated c*m laude from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, and was recently recognized as a Distinguished Sei Alumnus at the Bauer College of Business.

The 2015 USA Basketball Men’s National Team minicamp will feature practices on Aug. 11-12, and will conclude on Aug. 13 (7:30 p.m. PDT) with the 2015 USA Basketball Showcase, a USA Blue versus USA White exhibition game at the Thomas & Mack Center.

nice! Good for Rosas

I'm glad he's back with us... I hated that he was ever part of the Mavs org.

I may be in the minority, but I feel like any of the Rockets players or personnel involved in team USA is a good thing.

Is Keith Jones still working as one of the trainers?
