Talking about the young guys in general, and a bit more specifics about Motiejunas, Machado and Z. Dragic.

Seems McHale is dishing out a dose of reality on the young guys and putting down excessive expectations. I think the two "interesting" responses about roster moves are, well, interesting (or maybe just the only thing he can say about trade discussions).

The 2 guys he heaped the most praise upon last summer were Jordan Hill and Terrence Williams....

He couldn't have heaped any praise on anybody last summer. Lockout, remember?

the part where he was asked if this is what he signed up for says how much will he has to coach this team. we need a new head coach, maybe move McHale to assistant to the head coach. I'd rather have a coach WILLING to be part of a young team. that would make the team more interesting.

also, I'm calling Bynum to Houston in the next 2 days.

He seems worried about losing too many vets, because he says rookies learn more from the vets than the coaches. You have to have veteran players who have the respect to demand the best out of others and hold them accountable.

This is one of the reasons to keep Scola. If the learning curve of rookies is shorter when they can learn from vets combined with PT and coaching, then Scola can be invaluable for our young PFs.

Hilarious. McHale talking about D-Mo starting around 3:40 in the video:

"He's a high energy guy who's prone to playing kind of fast. He has all that energy in the first game in Vegas (shakes head)...the guys in the ninth row may have broken noses. He might throw that ball all over the place. He needs to get some of that out of him right now. I hope tomorrow he can get a couple of good practices. He's like one of those puppies. You need to run them before you put them in the car and let them sit for a long time."

Apparently D-Mo didn't play too much today after tweaking his back.

"Interesting"...his take on the flux of players in and out of the team...and in regards to the youth...he clearly stated that having vets only helps young players get acclimated to playing the NBA...having a vet(idol) yell at you means things may stick...having a coach yell..may not have the same effect, especially with young players.

McHale is secretly hoping for a trade...bc he has this dreadful look on his face about the prospect of playing with so many rookies...

If your mind is made up/closed, it doesn't matter what is said or observed, you're going to see it through the filter of your preconception. If you have already decided that Morey is an idiot or McHale can't coach, then every interview you see or hear you will skew the content to reinforce your preconception.

Every interview of McHale I see, I believe the guy is trying to give as thorough and honest an answer as he is able under the circumstances.

Is this what he signed up for? Of course this particular situation the team and roster is going through was not detailed in the process wherein the Rockets and McHale mutually agreed he would coach the team. It is "interesting" because this will not be the roster with which the Rockets begin the 2012-13 season. McHale doesn't know which of this set of guys will still be here and who won't. He's trying to teach a group of guys to develop teamwork when he knows this isn't the team that will be together when the season starts. Morey continues to work. We have more than 15 guys on the team. We will NOT have all these PFs on the roster on opening night. To read from this that he doesn't have the heart to coach this team is nothing more than trying to fit McHales words to your preconception.

The degree to which one is objective or subjective, I have come to realize, is a practical measure of one's maturity level.

Like many on this board...Scola is highly liked as a player...who is starting to show a little bit of age physically...the guy has been really durable and been Mr. consistent for the Rockets...Scola is a terrific offensive player...Having scola on the team is great...but I am very sure that he is in that stage of his career where he wants to be on a good team...Im hoping that the Rockets can find a way to move him to a contender...deserves it...

with that being said we need vets...A guy like chuck would have been amazing to have here now...ditto with Shane...these vets will mold good players and make them good people...As you know the NBA is known to change people. A sudden influx of wealth in the hands of young and immature adults can have bad consequences...it led to the problems Washington faced recently...Its all about maturity...and a collection of young kids at once is a really bad mix...rookies wont get valuable advice...rookies develop bad habits...rookies dont strive to get better...however, let me preface by saying that some rookies have it...There is a reason why there is high upside with Royce...bc he is reached that level of maturity...till our teams address its lack of vets...I am really not even optimistic that the Rockets will have games that are close...

cool story bro. but when has McHale ever successfully coached a young team to maturity? wouldn't you want a coach with experience to this? on how to make a young team better? last I checked, Lowry was a vet but still, McHale couldn't make him commit to the team, and the way he handled Morris, just awful. he clearly likes teams with vets already. I'm not sure hell ever make a young team elite like Scott Brooks. Parsons was awesome but he already plays like that in college. That's why the transition was great. stop sucking up to McHale. he's never proved anything in his coaching history.

you're like defending Darko millicic wasn't a bad choice for the draft.

    HE LOOK OKAY. - Scola
