Guy on radio was talking about how sad he was because he had "lost" someone last year who had killed himself. Wouldn't the more appropriate term be "he left" or "he quit"?
Sure, the person who committed suicide "left" or "quit". The guy who knew him "lost" someone. The term "losing a loved one" isn't really contingent on how the person died. Is this really a thread? you're so weird.
Probably the dumbest question I have seen in a while... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=10068064&postcount=1
I imagine if a radia host said he lost some one who quit, that you would be thinking his employe left.. And if he lost some one who left, well that sounds like a girl friend....
Have you ever considered giving up the deli business and becoming a grief counselor? I think you would do quite well as either a grief counselor or elementary school teacher.
in fairness to hotballa, it's a sensitive issue when something is 'lost' at a laundromat. So I can understand him searching for another word.
