He sounds like he's too focused on winning now.

Dammit. Why can't we just stick to coaches who hate winning, right?

"I believe in a lot of player freedom on offense and basically no level of freedom on defense; high levels of accountability there."

I like the sound of that.

Sounds like JVG on defense and Adelman on offense.

It does. Whether that's what we'll get, if the Rockets ever play basketball again, remains to be seen. I would be down for that.

He sounds like more of a defensive coach. I thought it was the other way around.

It sounds nice in theory. But it's not easy to find disciplined defenders which also has great BBIQ to make correct decisions on offense. Not to mention talent. In addition, I wonder how well players change switch gears between disciplined Def and free-wheeling Off.

Don't get me wrong. I like this approach. I just hope they can implement it.

It actually seems a lot easier to me. They only have to be disciplined on end of the floor.

I thought we shouldn't post the entire JCF article?

Defense-first basketball is similar to counter-attack in football (soccer). It wins games, but I doubt it wins a championship without relatively more luck than other champions.

Many coaches hold the same views as Chris I'm sure, but none have been able to implement it. Personally I think it's because most players don't have enough stamina to play lock-down defense AND up-tempo offense > unless you are able to snag exactly the correct personnel who compliment each other perfectly. But first of all, this is not soccer, you can't outright buy players. Second of all, I doubt Morey will let asset value erode just so those assets fit in the system - unless he's doing this subconcsiously and we'll find out in a year or two what these assets are worth in the NBA, rather than just on the Rockets.

Everyone wants to do those two things. Saying you want to do it is one thing, actually getting everyone (players and head coach) to implement it is difficult. Players want more time, and head coaches want to give more playing time to 7 or 8 people, but 7 or 8 can't do all that.

At least he seems like he will do his best to achieve it. Good luck!

I think as long as you post the link first, it is ok.

I think if was JCF that specifically asked that we wouldn't post the whole article, only a segment, so that he can still get his hits.

Regardless, I'm glad that Finch is defensive minded.

Yeah, we should be supportive of him and give him some hits too.
