Hillary Clinton defines marriage as between a man and a woman on the floor of the US Senate in 2004, in no uncertain terms. Here is the video from CSPAN (Length - 1:21):

    http://www.c-span.org/video/?c4535174/hillary-clinton-gay-marriage-2004

    And here is the quote:

"So I take umbrage at anyone who might suggest that those of us who worry about amending the Constitution are less committed to the sanctity of marriage, or to the fundamental bedrock principle that exists between a man and a woman, going back into the mists of history as one of the founding, foundational institutions of history and humanity and civilization, and that its primary, principal role during those millennia has been the raising and socializing of children for the society into which they are to become adults."

Also, here is an article on this topic, of which there are sure to be many more:

    http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/f...fundamental-bedrock-principle/article/2563454

This is going to make for some fine campaign ads, if she makes it out of the Democratic primary. Or perhaps some of her Democratic competitors will want to preempt the Republicans and make some during the primaries.

    Nothing really here.

2004 and 2015 are two very different times, when it comes to the social acceptability of gay marriage. And its very possible her views changed which isn't really a big deal. Regardless, a conservative opponent will never have an advantage over her when it comes to the rights of the gay community.

Yes, this will be interesting. Will gay rights proponents vote for Hillary Clinton or the plethora of Republican candidates that will continue to advocate against equal rights for gay people? Tough call.

it's actually incredible how successful the gay community have been with pushing their agenda into mainstream media.

I feel like the progress is ridiculously fast for something that was considered really taboo even very recently.

I suspect that the Supreme Court may agree with you.

It's quite amazing how fast the public perception changed on this issue. It's one of the few things we can look on with pride as far as American culture goes over the last 20 years.

I suspect you will be dismayed by the upcoming SCOTUS decision.

Yes, a quote from 2004 where she is defending her stance against a constitutional amendment that defines marriage as only between a man and a woman is really going to kill her with gay rights advocates in 2016.

Yes gay voters will now decide to vote for the GOP candidate because this shows that the GOP candidate will be better on gay rights than Hillary Clinton.

11 years! If you are stubborn and won't entertain new ideas and learning through the years, you are very conservative.

you could pick any number of statement from 2008 or even 2012 from any mainstream politician that seem so out of sorts today.

The politicians did not lead on this. I suppose they could chirp that they weren't as bad as the other guy, but none of them can pat themselves on the back for true leadership on on this issue.

What exactly is the ad going to look like? Who is going to be running them?

"Support gay marriage? Don't vote for Hillary! 10 years ago, she was opposed to it just like I still am today!"

In another 50 years . . .the concept of Marriage will be viewed like homosexuality was 50 years ago.

A Wholely unrealistic existance. . . like people view the idea of someone being a virgin past 16

Sexual 'rules' (I won't say morality) is constantly changing
With the lack of real outrage about teachers sexing underage kids
I suspect in a few years the idea of 14 yr olds marrying will be back in fashion again.

Agree. There are many, many, many reasons why Hillary should never be President, but this "position" is not one of them. First, while homosexual rights should be protected, I don't think many people would disagree that heterosexual marriage is a "bedrock" circumstance (homosexual marriages produce no, except perhaps by test tube, conceptions.

Besides, 2004 was more than a decade ago. People, even politicians, should be able to change their minds as years pass. So, let's leave the fat old lady alone on this one.
