I've always like Thibs, way back to his JVG days. He hasnt been given that much to work with up there, but his teams every single year are in contention. I wouldnt mind it one bit if he was coaching the Rockets (hint hint)

If this is true, he won't be a free agent for long. I (like you OP) would LOVE For Thibs to be here as Rockets HC (as long as he can truly utilize the roster depth that we have and make sure we bring that defensive focus and intensity every game).

I wonder if McHale would accept being denoted to assistant coach if we could pick up Thibs.

To stoke the fire ... what kind of creative trade could we offer? It would seem to be a neat little project for Morey to trade for a coach. What would it take?

Yeah can we have like a special coaching position for McHale

he can be like the "Player's coach", he brings up team morale and handles player staff relationships

Thibodeau can be the official head coach

How would the Rox sign Thibs when Rox just gave McHale an extension over a few years?

I would like to have Thibs as the Houston Rockets head coach, and McHale as an assistant coach.

So why does management have a problem with him?

Edit...I clicked the link and saw something about management having issues about how many minutes the players are playing, but that doesn't seem to make sense. Butler is around 39 mpg but he is a beast. No one else is above 35 mpg.

Is it? The threat of Durant and Westbrook jumping ship will make him think twice...

Negotiate a buyout, and then bring him back in an assistant coach position. I know that is improbable, but Thibs would be better than McHale in the saddle.

They wouldn't. But this is why so many of us were screaming over the premature and unnecessary extension offer by Les. Had the Rockets kept their options open, they could've let McHale go at the end of the season and signed any coach they wanted, including Thibs from the looks of things. Could you imagine him in charge of this team? We would never have nights like the ones at Golden State or New Orleans, that's for damn sure.
