So it turns out the 8th committee to investigate also finds that there was no wrongdoing, and the various ridiculous GOP claims of coverups and all that were wrong. Just like the 7 committees before them.

House Intel Committee dismisses some Benghazi myths

The House Intelligence Committee dismissed on Friday a number of the most persistent myths about the 2012 terrorist attacks at a diplomatic outpost in Benghazi.

The committee, chaired by Republican Chairman Mike Rogers of Michigan, found the U.S. government didn’t fail to send assistance to the Americans under siege by Islamic militants and there was no “stand down order” from the State Department. The committee also dismissed the notion that there was an “intelligence failure” the allowed the attacks to occur.

But the committee did rule that a number of individuals involved with Al Qaeda were involved with the attacks and Abu Sufian bin Qumu, a Libyan national, “probably played some role” in the attacks. Qumu was a prisoner at Guantanamo Bay before he was transferred to Libya in 2001.

“We spent thousands of hours asking questions, poring over documents, reviewing intelligence assessments, reading cables and emails, and held a total of 20 Committee events and hearings. We conducted detailed interviews with senior intelligence officials from Benghazi and Tripoli as well as eight security personnel on the ground in Benghazi that night,” Rogers and Maryland Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, the top Democrat on the committee said. “Based on the testimony and the documents we reviewed, we concluded that all the CIA officers in Benghazi were heroes. Their actions saved lives.”

Some Republicans in Congress have continued to cling to initial reports that surfaced after Ambassador Chris Stevens and two others were killed in the attacks. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the White House have been routinely criticized for failing to protect Stevens and for not quickly sending aide to protect the Americans.

But Rogers’ committee has long said its investigation would disproved those myths. The report, released quietly on a Friday night, dismisses the bulk of the most damning critics against the administration. The report was first reported by the AP.

Earlier this year, the House established a select committee to investigate the attacks. A spokesperson for the panel said on Friday that Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) would incorporate the Intel Committee’s findings into the Benghazi panel’s work.

“It will aid the Select Committee’s comprehensive investigation to determine the full facts of what happened in Benghazi, Libya before, during and after the attack and contribute toward our final, definitive accounting of the attack on behalf of Congress,” the spokesperson said.

The report is likely to spur criticism against the State Department over the shape of its security protocols as the agency knew it was unprepared to defend the outpost in case of a well-organized and heavily armed attack - a high probability in highly volatile region.

The report said State Department agents felt “ill-equipped and ill-trained to contend with the threat environment in Benghazi.”

Everyone knew it was a lie, but tell it enough and the rubes will eat it up. Hey it got them a GOP congress. So...mission accomplished.

    I guess

I hope Hillary squashes anyone like a bug if they try to bring it up anymore.

I've never thought there was any wrongdoing, at least not in the sense that laws were broken. I do feel that there were some very poor decisions made by the state department that led to the deaths of our people.

Like having black military strikes in a country with terrorist activities and not have adequate security for your diplomats. Also the ridiculous stories they were floating to the press after the attack.

It was Congress that underfunded embassy defense, but Monday-morning quarterbacking should be for the prevention of future failures not blame.

As a society I think we are too influenced by entertainment, that the good guys can engage in known risks but always come out alive. The fact that SEAL trained security let the Ambassador be that exposes sort of says the information they were working on was falsified.

I hope people take from this the shameless nature and political posturing of FAUX news and the GOP propaganda machine. What should have been a quiet, dignified assessment was conjured into a hyperbolic witch hunt designed to stain the President and taint the future President. It illustrates that paid advocates, politicians, lawyers lobbyist and ad-men see no personal morality limits on the 'job'. They will do or say anything they get paid to.

It's up to The People to be skeptical and vet everything by where the money goes.

Are you saying you wouldn't go for a 9th committee?

What are you trying to cover up?

You need the 9th committee to seed the others 1-8 for the 8-committee playoff.

Don't worry. The 9th Committee - the House Select Committee - is still out there doing its work...

Yay for team Democrats! Another victory for the morally sound liberals.

Seriously though, the only time Ive really heard about Benghazi is from the extreme right wing. I dont understand why this is a story or why bother making another thread.

Do you classify the majority of the GOP House and Senate as extreme right wing? The ones that launched endless committees and hearings? The ones that basically wanted to run the 2012 Presidential campaign on this topic and made endless accusations? All of the FOX News, who covered Benghazi basically around the clock for a while? There is a 1400+ post thread here on the topic - are all the accusers there the extreme right wing? This is basically the problem with the GOP - the extreme either is now the center or it has drowned out the center.

And then, of course, there's also your own posts on it, where you also jumped to conclusions that turned out to be false in middle of the feeding frenzy:

Loudly screaming "Benghazi!" served it's purpose just like yelling "Death Panels!" did. It will now be discarded.

But don't worry, right-wing kooks will find another drug to get high on for the next 3-4 years.

I hope that in the future, if Congress fails to provide the funding necessary to provide adequate defense of our embassy, our State Department has enough common sense to pull our people out. Other nations pulled their people out of Benghazi before the September 11 attack, but we did not. Fatal mistake.
