What is wrong if they guy is profiting off his story. This is Merica. Why can't a man make a buck. Instead these commanding officers are trying to bury this guy and the other guy.

IMO he's a disgrace to the SEALS for doing what he's doing, but that's America, you have the right to be a POS.

It's annoying because it's a team effort. No one could have shot him without the others. It's like Patton claiming he beat the Germans in WWII. We can also make sports analogies.

Plus, it's just something that should remain secret. We shouldn't even know it was the SEAL's much less Team 6

bottomline is that he's a douche bag.

SEALS are sociopaths... Criminally under paid sociopaths... OUR criminally underpaid sociopaths.

We are talking about very elite and very important people. We should pay them like they are elite... and as a trade off, if they run their mouths they should be privately "disciplined". We should take care of them and their families with an understanding there is no civilian life.

Mostly I would say because it is part of his job

Would you want every CIA Operative writing books about trade craft? Contacts? Coups they helped make? Democratically elected officials they helped overthrow? Etc?

America has a public face and a private face
sometimes in the name of freedom, justice, etc we do some unsavory things
I don't think letting them be known to the world would be good PR

Not safe to claim such a thing.. Not a good idea by any means... Wouldn't want to be known for that considering how many people actually liked Ladin

Can't build a soldier and not make him power hungry. The best of the best will be hungrier than others. Not a big deal, just boys being boys. Give them fat bonuses or they'll do what's best for them.

    SEALs are sociopaths and egomaniacs?

Where the hell is this coming from? Are astronauts sociopaths and egomaniacs too. Actually, fighter pilots might be

    But seals?

By some definitions, SEALs are the most social and loyal workers there are, because they actually live together and live for their buddy and dedicate their life to it

Where does this idea come from? The armed forces is the most regimented job there is. They beat the individualism and narcissism out if you to teach you the buddy system

You don't know anything about the armed forces

Most people here wouldn't like Rangers much less what they turn into after 6 months of OTC and years of missions. They are Type A personality aholes who don't give a crap about your feelings.

Pretty much all medical doctors are "type A personalitiy asholes who don't give a crap about your feelings."

Rangers aren't asholes like doctors are. You guys don't know what you are talking about. And are actually describing and stereotyping many people in many different jobs

Saying SEALs are essentially a danger to society is pretty telling me you are making movie and gaming comparisons. Not real life. I know some SEALs and you're just wrong

And two days before veterans day

do you know the difference between an ELITE TASK FORCE NAVY SEAL

and a general member of the armed forces?

do you know... anything, about the hierarchy that a man has to go through to get to a certain place as an elite combat vigilante?

Assuming he hasn't revealed anythin marked classified, I don't see the big deal. If he mistells the story or takes undue credit, that's fine because the other guys on that mission can pipe up and say he's full of it. Historians will sort it out. If he broke the SEAL code by talking -- well, that's for the SEALs to deal with.

    vig·i·lan·te
    ˌvijəˈlan(t)ē/
    noun
a member of a self-appointed group of citizens who undertake law enforcement in their community without legal authority, typically because the legal agencies are thought to be inadequate.

SF guys are super high speed but I think you play too many video games and watch too many Rambo type flicks because the language you're using is unnecessarily flowery.

Don't own a video game machine. it might not encompass a literal meaning, but within the subtext of the armed forces, they see themselves as achilles type characters. ain't nothin wrong with that.

IMO you're a disgrace for judging the guy without knowing all the facts. Oh I'm sure you THINK you do. But the only guys who know were the ones who were there including this guy.

Is Marcus Luttrell a disgrace for discussing his experience?

Come on man...thats WAY over the top. (as nicely as I can put it.)

Fair enough, I'll consider your opinion for what it's worth and move on. You obviously don't understand the point in that you seem to think that Luttrell writing a book as a memorial to those in his unit that died is the same as this guy writing a book glorifying himself as the guy who killed OBL.

Maybe there isn't going to be a book, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't one coming.
