Anyone noticing how much more Kareem is giving Quarterbacks fits?!?!?!? He's currently rated the 9th best corner in the league as well. -Yesterday he shut down Reggie Wayne 2 catches for 7 yards when covering. -On Thanksgiving he held Calvin Johnson to 1 catch for 8 Yards -Shut down D. Thomas vs Denver week 3 This guy is coming into his own! For whatever reason Wade and Vance felt better with Kareem covering Wayne and J Jo on Avery I think that Kareem is becoming something special we need to lock'em up ASAP! With him and J Jo on the outside we have two of the best corners in the league. Maybe this guy being those to the wolves his rookie season wasn't a bad idea after all. Look at players in the league that have had to overcome adversity and what they have come from. (Tom Brady, Cris Carter, JJ Watt, etc.)
Some of that is misleading. I remember Ball being on Calvin Johnson a lot in the Detroit game because of the size issue (Ball is 4 inches taller than Kareem). Johnson ended up with 8 for 140 so if Kareem only allowed 1 catch for 8 yards, it's not like he was on Johnson the whole game. Not trying to tear Kareem down, he's improved a lot since his rookie season though he still makes some boneheaded plays (penalties). Just giving some context. Is there a good site that tracks DB stats?
No corner is going to throw a shutout every single game. It's the nature of the position. He has, for the overwhelming majority of this season, been our most consistent cornerback.
Ball was getting roasted and Kareem insisted that he hold Calvin. When Calvin got on the to the island....
He's been doing an incredible job this year, but Kareem Island is getting carried away. Wade and Vance have done a very nice job doing two things: 1) Teaching and developing Kareem 2) Putting Kareem in position to succeed Kareem still has an undeniable issue anticipating breaks, changing direction, and accelerating to close gaps after breaks. Phillips and Joseph mitigated this largely by playing Jackson off his man (if you had a nickel for every time KJ jams his man at the line...you'd need to borrow money for a coke) and using him more on vertical route runners. When Jackson tried to match up with multi-break Welker, it was a disaster. But agreed - with Jonathan Joseph struggling with his injury this year, it's not insane to say Jackson has been our top performing CB.
Easy now, let's not forget what happened against the Packers and Patriots. He isn't a shutdown corner yet, but he's becoming solid and coming into his own. Given what he was the past few years I thought he would never come around because of his ball skills but I'm glad it's happened.
Keyword there is BEGINNING OF the dude is having a great year period and he has gotten better sky is the limit
Hope you understand the price of starting a thread like this is Kareem will be roasted and toasted one or both of the final two games and probably in the playoffs.
It's a little easier to be an island when the QB barely has time to breathe. When the QB has time, the CBs get exposed. It's how Wade's defenses work.
So Revis = not the best corner in the game? Because he got ROASTED by Ted Ginn and Randy Moss in the same season once...
I'm all for crediting good teachers/coaches but jeez, give the guy his credit for playing well. No matter how good the coaching may be, KJ has been playing well.
