I think insiders passed along what they probably heard from their sources; it didn't happen so now insiders are doubling down that something will happen "soon" and we're now getting bad intel.
Davis in my book is a top 5 player maybe 3rd. Omer and Davis front court is a devastating one and I think they're playoff bound for sure. The pick will probably be early 20 's.
My non-sources view of what likely happened is that Morey offered a deal that is 80 cents on the dollar, basically telling the other side that the player will be FA next year and leaving anyway. We aren't paying full value. The other side returns with "No, we're holding firm." And now Morey is basically waiting for the market to open up as teams inevitably will start sucking once the season hits. I think it makes sense. Things are more likely going to be bad for teams hanging on to their PGs. With this new injury, the Celtics are going to start the season in a fast paced offense with their kids, only to have Rondo and his plodding style be a bad fit when he returns. Minnesota is very much likely going to suck, despite their best efforts to try to win. Phoenix can easily regress from their incredible season last year. And you have other candidates like Atlanta(Millsap? Horford?), New Orleans(Ryan Anderson?) who depending on their starts may sell mid-way. It's a gamble. But it's a worthwhile gamble if Boston or Phoenix is asking for the moon.
So, if Pels in then who is out? CW says PHX Backcourt has them in, so then who is out? Boogie is busting out, so is Sac Kinged? Lakes and Minny look better. So, who stinks it up, Utes? The West has lots of teams who could slip in if teams slip up.

I believe it was reported Bledsoe wasn't communicating with his teammates either, during this whole thing. Maybe that pushed them away.
For the Pelicans to make it they'd have to pass TWO of San Antonio, OKC, LAC, Hou, Por, Mem, GS, Dal and Phx. Not to mention they'll also have to pass Min and Denver who both had better records then them last season. Odds are they'll be in the lottery again.
