Sooo..... this dropped around the end of the NFL Draft last night. First listen....Not a big fan. Production is good as always, but he just has too many corny lines. First half of the album is very rnb / slow. No catchy hooks. Second half picks up a little bit. Most his standout tracks were already released a few weeks back. He did take Popacann off "Controlla" & Kanye off "Pop Style" .... those songs downgraded.
First listen, wasn't too thrilling. Had to go back a second time to appreciate it more. 40 with amazing production as usual. I love everything he creates. I just felt like a lot of it was the same played out talking to or about ex's things. Definitely felt like more of "Take Care." Was expecting more bangers but solid album. Not a classic.
Take Care Drake is best Drake. This is the closest he has been to Take Care Drake, love the album. Also LOL at the hater that comes in here just to say they don't like Drake or hate rap. Grow up people.
It's a decent album. He played it safe on this album he could've taken out like 4-5 songs. Those 4-5 songs sound like they came straight from Take Care or NWTS. He should've continued with the sounds of his last mixtape and keep the dancehall tracks. The problem with Drake is he makes great individual tracks but can't put together an album to save his life. I think when it comes down to picking tracks he feels like he has to make a track for every fan he has. Like the outro sounds like Tuscan Leather. Weston road is another song that can fit on Take Care. Kendrick and Kanye have consistently changed their sound. Drake on the other hand plays safe and many people are taking notice of this flaw. He's running the ambient sound to the ground. I hope Drake takes on a new production team for his next album because the team he has now is pulling too much from 40. He should work with artist like Jamie xx or Timbaland. With that being out of the way this album had fillers and that could've changed my score to 8.5 but my score as the album was presented is 7.5
There's too much sequel in this, a quarter of this is rehash. Sequels are a bad thing for an artist. Although this isn't a complete rehash he kept songs that don't fit on to this album. The more I listen to this there is theme that keeps getting halted to take a detour to so of the Take Care sound and a NWTS song on the outro. I just wanted Drake to grow.
Drake is not Cudi or Kendrick. If you are expecting radical growth and experimentation then you are looking at the wrong artist. Not to mention that is a career killer if you screw it up (Cudi). This was a huge fan service album, and I'm glad he went back to his Take Care roots.
He actually released songs and a mixtape the year prior to album that showed glimpses of growth. I was expecting him to go the extra mile with that sound and he did but then went right back to the production he has ran to the grounds. Songs like One Dance, Feel No Ways, and 9 are sounds that he is doing way better the ambient rap. Not that I hate ambient I just didn't like the attempts of ambient production on this album. Again he did grow. He's just playing this game where he wants to please fans
Pretty disappointing Here's a link to stream the whole album without going on Apple music: http://www.hiphopengine.com/albums/drake-views-1
