I bought two suits at Nordstroms six months ago. One black and one dark navy blue. I also bought pants (trousers) to go with them at the advice of the sales person. The pants and the suits are made by different companies.

I don't wear suits to work, so I didn't get a chance to look at them closely until now. I see that the colors don't match quite right. The black suits and black pants are different shades of black. The same thing goes for the navy blue suits. The colors are not completely off, but they are close.

I've always thought black suits should ALWAYS match the pants exactly (i.e. same shade of black).

I'm not sure about dark navy blue suits. I think I've seen some people wear navy blue jackets with light khaki pants. But is it ok to wear navy blue suits with a slightly different shade of blue?

Finally, if all the colors are suppose to match perfectly, why are some suits and pants sold separately?

Because you didn't buy a suit. You bought slacks and a Sports Jacket.

Sports Jackets can be worn with khaki's and jeans.

    Suits should always come together.

If you haven't worn them yet, go back to the store and exchange them for suits.

If they've already been worn, the Jackets can be worn with khaki's. The slacks can be worn on hot Houston days where a jacket isn't required.

since you bought it from Nordstrom's they will take it back. The store is built on customer service and they should have no issue. While you are there pick out a real suit.

Ah... I see. Thanks fellas! :D

Years of business casual has really messed me up. :)

I've seen a lot of blue sportscoats before, but never black ones.

Does anyone else own a black sportscoat? What do they go with?

Try a place like this... http://www.kgmens.com/ ...they have some great sales there. I just picked up 2 suits w/alterations, a belt, and a pair of shoes for less than $300.

I believe they have a store locator on the web site.

As a rule of thumb... NEVER buy a suit from a department store.

2 suits for $300, that IS a great deal. :D

Unfortunately for me, there is no K&Gs around my area.

I was able to exchange the pants and get the proper suits from Nordstroms. Thanks for the advice and support guys. ;)

The best place to go in Houston for dress cloths is SYMS on Westheimer just outside of the Beltway (across from Target/Randalls). These guys have name brand suits, sports coats, shirts, shoes and everything else you can think of for dirt cheap.

    http://www.syms.com/

    10770 Westheimer
    Houston TX 77042

The first glance at the thread title reads more like "Sura faints questions."

    2 suits for $300? Yuck.

You get what you pay for when it comes to suits. Also, make sure it fits right.

People with a keen eye can spot a cheap, ill-fitted suit from across the room. You don't want to be 'that guy'.

if you want a real suit, go to my family's clothing store:

    A. Taghi Fine Men's & Women's Apparel
5116 Westheimer (across the street from Saks)

it definitely aint cheap, but the clothes (and tailors) are top-notch.

Not in your area? If you live anywhere near Houston, K&G is worth the drive. It's worth a 50 mile drive.

    Re-read the post... I said "w/alterations."

The suits fit great. I've got 7 now from the same outlet.

Why pay more if you can beat the "get what you pay for" scenario?

I guess I could have paid the full $300 - $400 each... but I'd rather have 2 or 3 suits for that price...

Plus, I got the leather shoes (no man made soles) and belt included at that price.

But all you ballers with fat dough/cheese/coin/paper that want to throw your money to the wind for the same look... be my guest.

btw- I get new suits about once every 6 months, so anything that cuts the cost is a'ight by me.

And yes, "syms" is a great store as well... although I do not think they have a tailor on the premises.

And I understand that a truly tailored suit can run anywhere from $500 to $2500 easily... I just go through suits a lot faster than your average twice a year special occasion guy -which is cool if you can get away with it.

I have to wear them weekly and sometimes several times in a week.

And FWIW... if you're on a budget at all, and want to look better than what you've spent... K&G is very much worth an hour's drive.

No, I don't have stock in the company.

Syms has a tailor on premises. It takes about 30 minutes.

Just got a Calvin Klein Suit for $300 there.
