My problem with the "Between all the missed time and missed reps, Clowney hasn’t produced much. After contributing only 4.5 sacks" line was that

    After 17 games

JJ Watt - 6 sacks at 23 years old

Khalil Mack - 4 sacks at 24 years old

Jadeveon Clowney - 4.5 sacks at 22 years old

I think a bit of context is important

That context is important but you are missing out on the fact that the first two had health and Clowney has not had the cleanest bill of health so far.

I'm not ready to give up on Clowney yet but if he goes another year with nagging injuries and whatnot it would be hard to think he will ever be able to put a full season together.

Yeah but that makes it even more impressive that despite having to overcome microfracture he's right there with those 2 when it comes to sack production. For sure he needs to stay healthy and I guess it's best to just see how things look this time next year.

Battle Red Blog has a story up about Clowney visiting a casino while the Texans were in San Fran: http://www.battleredblog.com/2016/8/13/12466444/was-jadeveon-clowney-at-a-louisiana-casino-last-night-while-the

Was Jadeveon Clowney At A Louisiana Casino Last Night While The Texans Were In San Francisco?
    By Tim  @battleredblog on Aug 13, 2016, 2:54p 501

    "C'mon, lucky seven."
It looks like he may have been. If it's true, what do Texans fans think about Clowney spending his Friday night doing that while the rest of his team was preparing for the preseason opener?

Yesterday, Bill O'Brien informed the media that Jadeveon Clowney did not make the trip with the Texans to San Francisco with the team. The rationale for Clowney staying in Houston was for him to rest and get additional treatment with the training staff.

"Nothing serious but I felt like it was something where let’s give him (Clowney) a few days, be with our trainers back in Houston and be ready to go for next week when we get back and New Orleans comes to town and get some good practice sessions in there." O’Brien said.

In the comments to that post, one of the members of our community had this to say:

Be concerned. He's at the Golden Nugget playing craps. I'm at the adjacent table.

When pressed by other fans, LawHorn06 mentioned that he had proof of Clowney being at the casino.

Swear to god. I have a pic.

Shortly after I read that comment, I received this tweet:

@SBNationNFL @battleredblog Clowney was rehabbing his sore knee at the GN Casino in Lake Charles last night appeared to be be moving well
    10:11 AM - 13 Aug 2016

Seeing as how that Twitter account was started earlier today and the person behind it sent the same tweet to three other individuals, I was dubious. Yet it was the second time I'd read about Clowney being in a Louisiana casino last night, so I reached out to LawHorn06, who then sent me the picture you see in this post. While there's no way to be absolutely sure the person pictured is Jadeveon Clowney and that the picture was taken last night (though I have been provided a screenshot that indicates it was taken at 8:56 p.m. yesterday), it sure looks like Clowney, and it sure looks like it was taken in a casino.

Even assuming it is Clowney in that picture, and if it was in fact taken last night, we're not privy to what Clowney did earlier in the day, or what his plans are for the remainder of the weekend. He may well have gotten treatment earlier yesterday and be heading back to Houston today for more. He could have done everything the training staff asked him to do. He may have even explicitly been told to relax and have fun last night. There's certainly nothing illegal about an adult gambling in a casino in Louisiana. From that perspective, this is a non-story, particularly in a world where Johnny Manziel has repeatedly lowered the bar for questionable off-the-field conduct.

Yet it still may boggle the mind of some Texans fans that Jadeveon Clowney could have possibly thought that heading to Louisiana to gamble, in public no less, was a good idea, especially after his head coach specifically said Clowney didn't make the trip to San Francisco with his teammates in order to rest and get treatment from the training staff in Houston. After all, just because it's not illegal doesn't mean it's smart.

If in fact Jadeveon Clowney was in a Lake Charles casino last night, what's your reaction to this? No big deal? A lapse in judgment? Disappointment? Surprise? Sound off in the comments below.

All in all, I found it to be a quite funny read.

Yeah we talked about it here briefly but it's a total non-story.

The bust is a bust. I don't know a fan that really counts on him being a big part of this team anymore.

Well he played 13 games and had 4.5 sacks while playing solid run D last year. Too early to call him a bust but the missed time is concerning to say the least

not a bust, just hasn't met expectations of the 1st overall pick. PFF graded him as one of the best run stoppers in the league last year

He's unreliable and not as good as a number one overall pick should probably be. I don't think he is a bust, I think he will probably play for a long time, but he'll never be a star.

Article cited dry needling therapy....wondering if anyone else has done this? I've had 4 treatments so far, it helps a little but I can say for 100% sure you have to take "it" seriously to care for your body in this manner. No two ways about it, it flippin hurts. It's helped me some but it's as painful as it sounds. Yoga too, I don't think you can lose significant weight doing yoga but I'm a firm believer in its benefits. Sounds like he's just dieting well on top of everything. Hopefully this is the year it comes together.

I really dont think its fair to call him a bust or say "not living up to expectations of first pick"

We have yet to see him fully healthy. He was still graded one of the best run stoppers in the league. There was no way we were going for ODB, and while Mack has been great, I think Clowney deserves a healthy chance. If Mack or ODB tore their ACL last year instead of having a break out year, no one would be questioning the decision, he was the CLEAR choice as number one pick, let him get healthy and come in to his own...

The casino thing is a non story as long as it's the offseason.

    It is not the offseason.

It's still a non-story. Clowney going to a casino during his day off is no more an issue than Watt dicking around at a firehouse on his day off. It's only a big deal to those who are looking for controversy.

Not sure, I think fans are way to easy on giving players passes for stuff like this. Someone on twitter (I forget who, one of SportsRadio guys) said he texted some of his sources, ex-NFL player acquaintances or whatver, and they all agreed it was a bad look. Why would the other players be happy about something like this?

The main thing is that he has big hands. That's what matters.

Doubtful they're losing any sleep.... they were asked a question and they responded. The problem is, you don't like their answers.

Going to a casino isn't a big deal, but *it's a bad look* when one's heart and health has been questioned.
