Those were all Top Five picks. The Warriors only picked as early as 7th one time. But, yeah, OKC got some great players!

What this tells me is Morey's draft history and record is very mediocre at best.

Oh yeah Mook Busty Morris ahead of Kawhi

How good of a player a team gets is a function of the system combined with the place the team is picking. Could they have got some guys who were better talent wise? Probably BUT with late draft and 2nd round picks, I think Houston did the best they could. They got a few guys who are legit NBA rotational player and that's typically the definition of success with picks in that range.

I don't feel as bad about missing out on Kawhi because I'm not sure Kawhi turns into all world defender and Finals MVP if he gets drafted by Houston. While he certainly has the talent, being in San Antonio's culture no doubt greatly influenced his trajectory as that's the best coaching and player development in the league. Remember Boris Diaw was nearly out of the league before San Antonio reclaimed him and turned him into a key piece to their team.

Playing on a franchise with great team play makes every player look better. A bunch of folks overlooked Kawhi Leonard, not just Morey.

Yes, but let's not make it like we traded it straight up.

Everyone here was too busy about dissing GSW as opponent to actually challenge the OP.

Their 2010 Pick was horrendous. "George was the only impactful player." George is all-star, borderline superstar. And two near max players where between George and Udoh.

2010 was this:

6. Udoh BUST!
7. Monroe
8. Aminu
9. Hayward
10. George

Udoh is clearly, by far, the worst of those picks. By far. Very terrible pick. "Nailed" it. yeah right. Udoh is a BUST dude

Oh, and the Draymond Green draft, they took Harrison Barnes 2 picks before

Andre Drummond

2010 was horrible. and passing on Andre Drummond was a clear mistake in 2012. Morey would be beat to death on this bbs for passing on Drummond for Barnes.

The did not NAIL those two drafts by any stretch of the imagination.

OP is clearly a kid or someone who doesn't really follow NBA Basketball.

It's interesting that the credit for the drafts is being given to the organization who fired the GM who made these decisions.

"How an ex-GM who got demoted in 2012 turned the Golden State Warriors into a juggernaut"
http://www.businessinsider.com/larry-riley-warriors-demoted-2015-5

Larry Riley is the real MVP. This turned out to be one of the most unjust terminations (technically a demotion) of all time.

Clearly no GSW bandwagon fans.

He passed on Greg Monroe, Hayward, George and Drummond.

What exactly is so special about his drafting in 2010 and 2012. His redeeming thing is Minnie was so stupid to take Rubio and Flynn, and Klay was a great pick. Otherwise, 2010 was horrendous and '12 missed Drummond.

I think you're underestimating what he did for the team:

Are you sure this team would have been better if they'd taken your suggestions?

He didn't NAIL these drafts. That's my point.

He picked Udoh for christsakes over Monroe, Aminu, Hayward and George "IN ORDER" immediately after Udoh. How is that Nailing the draft.

Then he picked Barnes over Drummond by two slots

Stay on topic wrt "NAILING the drafts"

He clearly did not nail all of the drafts. I don't know who the best GM of all-time has been but I'm sure he screwed up a few of them. Obviously it's easier to nail picks higher in the draft but Curry, Thompson, Ezeli and Green were excellent picks.

Comparison of Riley and Morey picks:

Warriors

Draft Round Pick Player College/High School
2009 1 7 Stephen Curry Davidson College
2010 1 6 Ekpe Udoh Baylor University
2011 1 11 Klay Thompson Washington State University
2011 2 44 Charles Jenkins Hofstra University
2012 1 7 Harrison Barnes University of North Carolina
2012 1 30 Festus Ezeli Vanderbilt University
2012 2 35 Draymond Green Michigan State University
2012 2 52 Ognjen Kuzmic

Rockets

2009 2 32 Jermaine Taylor (from Washington)[v] UCF
2009 2 34 Sergio Llull (from Denver via Oklahoma City)[v] Real Madrid (Spain)
