People that must restructure or go: Chris Myers Garrett Graham Ryan Fitzpatrick Tyson Clabo Devier Posey Thad Lewis That gets us to about 27.5 mil in cap space I believe. Then free agent wise I try to bring back the following players, but wont pay more than the amount next to their name annually. Danieal Manning- Minimum Kareem Jackson-5 million Kendrick Lewis-2 million Ryan Mallett- 4 million Brooks Reed-1.5 million Derek Newton-2.5 million Thats 15 million right there if we resign everyone, leaving about 12.5 million left. I read somewhere that our draft class will cost about 6 million, leaving us about 6 million in free agency. This is not including restructure by Andre which could give us another 5-7 million this season, which would allow us to go out and sign a pretty nice player at safety, linebacker, or defensive end
Why even suggest restructuring some of those? Generally, when you restructure you trade years for guaranteed money, lowering the cap hit in the process. So why would you give Fitzpatrick (or Clabo or Posey) more years? Posey's figure is so low, you wouldn't save much by restructuring, you'd just end up adding years on to his deal. Would you want that? Thad Lewis is making the vet minimum. You can't lower his number. But there's no dead money there so if he's cut, he doesn't cost anything. So why would you even suggest a restructure? Most of these are simply a case of to cut or not to cut, not whether to restructure or not.

I think the exact opposite. Lewis is not costing much and Fitzy has trade value with his veteran leadership and non-guaranteed salary. If Mallet signs elsewhere, Fitzpatrick is the best qb on the roster. The only possible cuts I see happening are Jjo, Graham, and Andre(highly unlikely).
I don't think Fitz has any trade value. But I think that the cost is so low that all QBs at least go to camp. Mallett (if he signs), Fitz, Savage, Keenum, Lewis. Draft pick? Cuts will certainly be made, but I don't think they necessarily have to happen now. And it doesn't hurt to have a lot of arms in camp, even if you know who you're going to cut, to give the receivers a lot of reps.
Lewis is definitely going to get paid more this year than he did last year. Fitzpatrick's trade value keeps going down the more interested the Texans are in signing Mallet. I don't see them getting much more than they did from the Schaub trade.
I'm talking about Thad Lewis, the 5th string QB. Did you see the contract that McCown got from the Browns? Fitzpatrick's contract more team friendly, and Fitzpatrick is a better player. Why would teams overpay for a QB when they could trade for Fitzpatrick?
Revis?: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>So according to Schefty w/Colin, Revis is also expected to hit the market</p>— John Middlekauff (@JohnMiddlekauff) <a href="https://twitter.com/JohnMiddlekauff/status/572431241485672448">March 2, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
But if it is likely that the Texans are not going to keep Fitzpatrick on the roster, teams might just wait till he gets cut.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Teams were informed today the salary cap will officially be $143.28M, per source.</p>— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/572444817252208640">March 2, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Why would the Texans cut their most consistent qb from last season? He's affordable and doesn't mind being a back up. If for nothing else but practice I keep Fitzy around. The Texans should go into camp with four qbs on the roster, Thad Lewis shouldn't be one of them. Savage should battle to keep his job with whoever is drafted and Mallet should be the starter
I could only imagine one team having even the slightest intention of trading for Fitzpatrick and even that's a longshot; the Jets who have Gailey as their OC. McCown's signing may have created a weird overvalued market for QBs this offseason, but that only complicates how much Mallet's gonna get, which is annoying in itself. The new cap hasn't been announced yet, and Fitz's 3.5 may become the standard for quality backup money.
The Texans most consistent qb sucked hard. That is why. To keep Ryan Mallett, Kareem Jackson, Kendrick Lewis and Derek Newton, the Texans will need to cut salary. Fitz is an overpaid backup.
That makes no sense. The most reasonable thing to do is beg or cut Dre ( love the guy to death but I've bought in to the O'Brien system and no one man is bigger than the team. This team is going to do something special this year and if they can't get to a number both parties like he deserves the chance to go get paid somewhere else) restructure Watt, Myers and Brown, then cut Joseph
