Tanking isn't guaranteed, but Philly's is actually going well. They've been playing better lately and have a few players with real potential like Noel, Covington, and McDaniels. MCW is flawed but has value. Embiid is the prize -- of course he has risks but he has an upside that is almost impossible to find elsewhere. Add one more lottery pick and they'll be one of the most interesting young teams.

If OKCs owners weren't cheap they wouldn't have gotten harden. There is a lot of luck involved.

You can't consider that lucky! Bad decision by OKC to give Ibaka that big contract and paying that scrub Kendrick Perkins money too...everyone knew Harden was the better talent of the above players mentioned and they didn't budget accordingly and boom! They lost Harden! That's why K.D. will be leaving OKC in 2016

Hinkie's doing it right. Collecting assets. Keeping the books clean. Taking advantage of other teams by taking out the trash for them. While cycling through players until he gets a couple superstars that pop up. No one has quite emerged yet. Although several good talent players have emerged. Guys like MCW, now Covington, KJ McDaniel, and others will be good NBA players. MCW may indeed become more than just good. Noel still has a chance to be good. And we haven't seen Embiid yet.

At some point..Hinkie is going to draft a superstar. It will be obvious. He might have that guy in Embiid. I don't know. I do believe if Embiid gets healthy and stays healthy that he could become huge in the NBA. And once that singlular or maybe even those 2 great players emerge....Hinkie will have plenty of cap room to sign 2 more superstars.

    He'll build a great team. It's coming.

I hope so. I would genuinely like to see him have success. Just haven't been enamored by tanking from a pure fan perspective.

The Sixers are what the Rockets would have looked like if Les had agreed to Daryl's plan.

Thank God James Harden happened our way.

We signed Harden like the day before the season. He fell in our lap and changed the teams course.

Morey is showing the league how it's done. It's going to be harder to rob teams of second rounders and whatnot in the future because every team is going to be operating like this. Every asset is valuable.

So you think Harden is nothing? :roll eyes: You are the weakest link.

we never acquire James Harden without the lottery pick acquired in the Lowry to Toronto trade

I've seen this argument a lot here. It seems to me that this logic works only if the lottery pick had a higher trade value than Lowry. If Lowry had the same or higher value, then presumably we could still trade for Harden using Lowry as an asset, right? Did I miss something?

Also means that $ factors in the equation. And the potential 4th pick in the draft, if drafted correctly, should be better than Lowry, and cost pennies compared to his next contract.

Absolutely it had higher trade value, especially to OKC, What would OKC do with a pg who is disgruntled at being a backup?

The difference between picks and players is that picks are liquid assets. It's like saying which is more valuable, having $50,000 in cash or having a car that's currently worth $60,000. The car is worth more now, but will depreciate over time. And you can't get anything for a car unless the other person wants that specific make and model. While money is money. You can use it to barter with anyone for just about everything.

The problem with Lowry is that he's only worth full value to a team that needs a PG like him. While a lottery pick is useful to everyone.

Part of the reason he wouldn't go into tank mode is because Les wouldn't allow it. I think he's stated that on a few occasions. So, he basically had to keep his options open, salary cap available, and wait for opportunities to present themselves, and do things the hard way - by trying to win. lol.

Lowry would have been much better for OKC than the 12th pick. Maybe the trade wouldn't have seemed so lopsided if they got Lowry. But, of course, they couldn't have gotten him -- he commanded a bigger salary commitment than they could do. Which is why you liquidate him for a pick so a team can accept talent without the salary commitment. We could have included another team to take Lowry in a 3-way trade and send some compensation to OKC, but that'd be a lot harder than the way Morey did it. I think Morey gives up value when he makes these trades for picks compared to the quality of player he could get if he traded for an actual body. But, there's something to be said for the flexibility he gets from these deals.
