I was on the bike trails this afternoon at Hershey Park and lost control while going fast down a curve...fell off my bike and hit the ground with my forearms and forehead. It was hard enough that it started to swell immediately, but not so hard that I felt faint or dizzy or anything. Anyways, I have a huge bump right smack dab on my forehead...I've been icing it for about an hour and a half now and I guess it's gone down a little. It's still a heinous protrusion though, looks gross. Took some Aleve and doing better pain-wise. Going to go to the doc tomorrow and buying a helmet before I go out again (obviously).

I just want to know, is there anything other than icing it that would make the bump go down? I just really want it to mostly subside before work tomorrow. I look like a caveman :(

Not to scare you, but I would go the ER immediately to have a MRI

Concussions can be serious. Be careful.

    Symptoms
    By Mayo Clinic staff
The signs and symptoms of a concussion can be subtle and may not be immediately apparent. Symptoms can last for days, weeks or even longer.

The two most common concussion symptoms are confusion and amnesia. The amnesia, which may or may not be preceded by a loss of consciousness, almost always involves the loss of memory of the impact that caused the concussion.

Signs and symptoms of a concussion may include:

    Confusion
    Amnesia
    Headache
    Dizziness
    Ringing in the ears
    Nausea or vomiting
    Slurred speech
    Fatigue
Some symptoms of concussions are not apparent until hours or days later. They include:

    Memory or concentration problems
    Sensitivity to light and noise
    Sleep disturbances
    Irritability
    Depression
    Symptoms in children
Head trauma is very common in young children. But concussions can be difficult to recognize in infants and toddlers because they can't readily communicate how they feel. Nonverbal clues of a concussion may include:

    Listlessness, tiring easily
    Irritability, crankiness
Change in eating or sleeping patterns
Lack of interest in favorite toys
    Loss of balance, unsteady walking
    When to see a doctor
While most concussions get better on their own, some blows to the head can cause more-serious injuries. Seek medical advice if you have any of the following symptoms:

    Prolonged headache or dizziness
Vision or eye disturbances, including pupils that are bigger than normal (dilated pupils) or pupils of unequal sizes
    Nausea or vomiting
    Impaired balance
    Prolonged memory loss
    Ringing in the ears
    Loss of smell or taste
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you call your child's doctor for advice if your child receives anything more than a light bump on the head.

Signs that a child who has a head injury needs medical attention include:

    Loss of consciousness
    Repeated vomiting
    Seizure (convulsion)
Headache that gets worse over time
Changes in your child's behavior, including irritability or difficulty waking
Changes in your child's physical coordination, including stumbling or clumsiness
    Confusion
    Slurred speech
    Lasting or recurrent dizziness
Blood or fluid discharge from the nose or ears
A cut that won't stop bleeding after you've applied pressure for 10 minutes

It's not a concussion, I feel perfectly fine. just so annoyyyyyed with how creepy I look.

I'm not exactly sure where it was, but I was only a few yards from the neighborhood on Boheme, not too far from the Beltway.

No, I didn't see it. I am familiar with that area, though. When I was living in Houston, I used to walk my dog, Wags, through that area. It is basically in the middle of a forest. For a long time there was no bike trails, but then over a span of a summer, some uncouth youngsters decided to build bike trails in the middle of the forest. Unless you are familiar with the forest, you would have no idea the bike trails and jumps existed.

You see an occasional snake and coyotes there at night. I once saw a ******* peackock walking through that forest by itself. It freaked me out, but not Wags.

I read on Chron.com about a year ago, that there was a mountain lion sighting in Hershey Park. Not sure what section it was though, but I think closer toward Highway 6 area.

Vinegar. I remember using it on my nephew's bumped head when I was younger. Smells awful, but the swelling really went down.
