This is tremendous news for the Cougar football program. Keenum began the 2010 season as a Heisman Trophy candidate and was on track to break NCAA career records for total offense, passing yards, touchdowns, pass attempts and completions. However, he suffered a season-ending knee injury against UCLA during the third game of the season. Following the 2010 season the University of Houston requested that the NCAA grant Keenum the extra year of eligibility due to medical hardship. Keenum was red-shirted his freshman season at UH, but as part of its request the school told the NCAA he missed his initial year of football due to injury. To receive a sixth-year of eligibility a player must miss at least two seasons due to factors out of their control, in this case injury, and the NCAA agreed. In 2009 Keenum finished eighth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy and led the nation in passing offense and total offense. That season Keenum passed for 5,671 yards, the third-highest total in NCAA Division 1/FBS single season history. He also joined Texas Tech's Graham Harrell as one of only two players to pass for 5000 yards in two seasons.. In 2008 Keenum led the nation in total offense and was second in passing.
I didnt think would happen. i was looking forward to watching him play this season. lucky break for him. maybe he'll learn not to try to tackle players. he's not an nfl prospect so its a really good thing for him and the school.
